The more I watch the news the more I'm convinced our society is in big trouble. It seems the ego has taken over and those in power are insane. This way of life doesn't seem to work for anyone as depression, anxiety and hopeless boredom touches every socioeconomic class. If you could make a New World what would you do?

Bacon for everyone.

Once I saw a Criminal Minds episode where pigs ate chopped up human bits. People bacon.

Soylent Sau. :D
Just toss some kale in and the bitches will never know.

That's probably because all of the interesting plots have already been done and writers are grasping for straws.
Ordinarily I would agree with you but in the case of that show, there are no shortage of sick people to derive plots from, so I think they'll be set for a long time.

Turn off your TV news. Seriously. It's 1% information, 99% stupid stuff designed to instill panic in people so they keep watching ("Will ebola kill your family? Find out after this word from our sponsors!"). Get your news from written sources - preferably major new sources on the Internet, where the articles are followed by comments and discussion, which is alternately silly/stupid and informational/helpful but in whole provides a more balanced view.

The average person has access to more information more quickly than ever before. Just because we know about all the bad things happening in the world in real time doesn't mean there are more bad things happening. Keep calm, give time/money to orgs that help, treat other people (even strangers) with kindness and love. That's the best we can do.

Use your TV for fun stuff, like movies and shows.

^This.

TV is about what news makes for good video. The sound-byte has ruined people's ability to look into any issue in depth.

hey sweetie, welcome to GB. I would have to agree with you. Once has to turn off the negativity and be smart...work hard...and keep moving forward.

PS also remember that 90% of the people here on GB are mentally broken and only looking out for a free hand out. If you run into a Gb bully pm me and I will kick their ass

I cant disagree more.

Buried in the garbage is the sense of whats going on for real. If I avoided the news I'd never know Thomas Duncan was fucked over by the hospital because he was indigent, I'd never know how ill prepared we are for epidemics, how cavalier MDs and nurses are about forfeiting their good times for public safety, and how inept a research scientist is at commanding political snakepits like private hospitals. Trust me, hospitals will fuck your ass when you force them to do right.

I had just finished reading about Fox News' alarmist "Power Panel" analysis of President Obama's Ebola Czar pick. Some mighty qualified "expert opinions" there!

^^^^^If stupid shit watched Fox he'd know its constipated with liberal pundits.

so, yeah, basically you came to the wrong place. here it's just glib twats, petty bourgeois nitwits and fucking nut logs. go somewhere else.

Disagree. Laziness is responsible for people's failure to look into issues in depth. The sound byte appeals to that laziness, but it doesn't cause it.

I look into issues in depth all the time. Primarily legal and some science and technology issues. I am also often motivated to do further research when a sound byte sounds like total bullshit or seems to neglect addressing a relevant aspect of the subject.
