The NRA's latest newsletter gives gun owners advice on proper manners.
As gun owners, whether or not our decisions are dictated by the law, we are still accountable for them. And we owe it to each other to act as checks on bad behavior before the legal system steps in and does it for us.

This is kind of strange, because the idea of a gun owner being held responsible for the consequences of their actions runs contrary to the latest "stand your ground" laws, which allow for understandable mistakes, or even excuse a person for putting themselves in the danger which required killing another person to escape it.

The NRA is too smooth an operator to call it's dues paying member "douchebags" for carrying an AR-15 into Dunkin Donuts. They are much subtler than that.

More to the point, it's just not neighborly, which is out of character for the big-hearted residents of Texas. Using guns merely to draw attention to yourself in public not only defies common sense, it shows a lack of consideration and manners. That's not the Texas way. And that's certainly not the NRA way.

Maybe next, they'll send a polite note to Joe the Plumber.

I thought the whole purpose of owning a Steel Penis Substitute was to avoid responsibility for your actions?

I figure whoever is responsible for asking gun owners to shoulder some responsibility will be out of work by the weekend.

So I guess the idea is that we're supposed to be very polite and bring a gun for Treyvon and do the 20 paces thing...

;) ;)

Bad publicity for open carry- Weapons and restaurants do not mix very well.

Open carry in GA

PALDING COUNTY, Ga. -- Funeral services will be held next Monday June 9th for an off-duty Griffin police officer who was shot and killed early Saturday morning.

The incident took place at the Waffle House at 1702 North Expressway in Griffin at 2:20 a.m.

Kevin Jordan, 43, was working security at the Waffle House when three people, two men and one female, inside the restaurant began fighting.
Jordan approached the table and was able to convince them to go outside.

The individuals have been identified as Michael Bowman, Tyler Taylor and Chantell Mixon.

While the officer was speaking to the three individuals, Mixon became unruly and uncontrollable.
Jordan and the woman got into a physical confrontation as he tried to subdue her and place her under arrest.

Bowman, 31, then pulled out a gun and fired five shots into Jordan's back, killing him.

lol @ "whether or not our decisions are dictated by the law".

Tells you everything you need to know about how the NRA views the Second Amendment.

Then there's the story of the Subway that was recently robbed on the first day of its no-gun policy.

;) ;)

NRA "comes down hard" on dickish gun owners the same way the UN "comes down hard" on dictators and despots, with a sternly worded letter.

...or even excuse a person for putting themselves in the danger which required killing another person to escape it.
Every "Stand your ground" law I've read (I admit I haven't read them all) only allow the use of deadly force self defense against an illegal assault, meaning that if you attack someone and they fight back, their self defense "attack" isn't unlawful.

Interesting that they say Raymond's brother had a carry permit, but make no mention if Mixon did. They rarely say, I've noticed.

It would be similar to somebody in the white house getting fired of asking the Obama administration to stop lying and breaking the law. What are the odds ya think?

I think you misunderstand.
Speaking for myself, if I have the means to save someone's life from an assailant, even if the law dictates I'm not allowed to have that means, I will choose to save the life.

If only all gun owners had the same mindset.

Just so that I do not come off as a complete pussy, I have about 4,950 .22 rounds and well over two dozen confirmed squirrel kills this year alone.

:D

Don't worry Cap'n that fact that you assert that you have a stockpile of nearly 10,000 rounds of ammunition says all we need to know about you.
