I think minimum wage is necessary but beyond that a company can pay what they want. For the most part the market will force appropriate wages for the job. When it doesn't then it doesn't. People trying to make a living at fast food are doing it wrong. In management you can do pretty well but not as an employee. Expecting different is just ignorant.

Some people just don't have the smarts to do any better than fast food or digging ditches.

I know men that work their balls off all day long and don't expect a hell of a lot for it.

Our society is wealthy enough to afford to give these people enough money for what they contribute to at least have a life.

They should not be forced to go spend the night in a cardboard box just so you with the million dollar house can get the grass cut cheap
