Yet, bringing a plate to a table warrants 20%?
Fastfood is almost certainly more difficult job than waitress at a fancy restaurant.
I guess Red Lobster is what you would consider a fancy restaurant.
Say you have a 4 top walk into a McDonalds. The person behind the counter has interaction with each one of them once as they place their orders, for a total of 4 touches. At a 'fancy' restaurant, let's say a nice steakhouse, a waiter or waitress will touch each person:
- to take a drink order
- to ask the table if they would like any appetizers
- as he/she returns with the drinks and asks if they have any menu questions
- as he/she takes each order
- as he/she returns to ask again about any drink refills
- as he/she returns with each dinner order
- as he/she returns to ask if everything is to everyone's satisfaction
- as he/she returns to clear service ware, and asks again about a drink order
- as he/she returns to suggest dessert
- as he/she returns with the check
In comparison, for a table of four, how many more potential touches is that for a waiter/waitress?
Not to mention having to know an extensive menu selection beyond burgers, salads, chicken nuggets, and drinks.
Then, you have the smart people who may suggest which wine will go best with an individual meal, or potential substitutions.
There is no comparison here.
