forecasting is still largely a an impossible process because there are so many atmospheric systems that we don't fully understand, but those models have worked well for forecasting on a much larger, long timescale.

they do acknowledge that there are more independent variables in the climate system than CO2 but those are the ones that they don't understand and so bringing those into the equation just brings too many uncertainties, which is why they are largely not accounted for.

it's because it is known to a certain degree from these forecasts that they have used to predict backward and forward which have been accurate.
