Viewcount norms

I'm brand new, just posted my first two chapters in Incest/Taboo: http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=1434768&page=submissions

Are there any viewcount/vote stats per genre published so I can gauge the response to my stuff?

Thanks,

a noob.

View counts remains a stat that tends to disappear from public view after the story leaves the genre "new" lists. Until recently the rating did that too, except for the top lists. Maybe eventually the system will make the view counts visible longer.

A while back I actually collected some statistics a while back. Must be like a year ago, I don't remember exactly. Numbers will not have changed too much since then.

For incest/taboo: average story rating is 4.30; median rating is 4.41 (median means: half the stories are <4.41, half >4.41).

On average a story in this category is viewed 123,837 times. Note that older stories will have many more views than newer stories simply due to being out there longer.

These statistics were taken from a random sample of 197 stories in this category.

A click counts the same as a read but they arent equal.

Tho I get one-bombs from my LW sissy boys, they read the stories and come back for more.

With a series you weedout the surfers, and create a fan base.

Interesting! Thanks for the data.

That's more of what I was looking for, stats per genre. I was hoping for a breakdown on like week 1, month 1, year 1 etc, but that seems like it might not be available.

Very helpful in assessing interest in my stuff.

Your view submissions page tells you how many views you get and is far more up to date then the top lists.

Also looking at the bottom of your story it says 88k+ for views. For a brother/sister story that is pretty good. even better considering you're new. Your scores are decent as well. All around I would say a nice start.

Good to hear. Apparently it got crossposted to reddit and 4chan and got a bit of attention there. I'm intuiting that releasing in a series is a good way to build a fan base.

Its too soon for me to conclude that a series is the way to go for fans, but it does seem to be the path to discourage non-fans and surfers. I suspect that chronic one-bombers are closet fans with serious guilt issues, cuz they keep coming back.

My goal is to appeal to a narrow fan base of women. To that end I wanna identify their specific sickness and feed it with characters and scenarios they can resonate with. I think a series will do it.

I get that feeling about the one bombers, same guy has commented on both my posts saying he REFUSES to read anything I write so long as it has drugs in it. I have a feeling he'll be back for the next installment, with the same gripe.

I think I can make my peace with that.

I think my audience is roughly on par with my bent, if I keep writing stuff that gets me off, I have a feeling they'll come back.

I probably don't have huge female appeal, but then again, what the hell do I know?

Drugs? Yeah some incest fans only like light and fluffy you start tossing real world shit in there its like pissing in their cheerios.

Try throwing in some hardcore BDSM themes as well.

Ask me how I know.

Based on decades of working with women, theyll do anything that isnt violent. I mean, anything. They say EWWWWWWWWW and do it when no one is looking.

Light and fluffy incest may possibly be the best turn of phrase I've seen all day.

Only in lit is that a valid term.

But its true they want it fun and friendly. Most incest fans are happy with "and suddenly mom/sis/aunty realized they did indeed want to be with their son/brother/nephew and hot sex was had by all!"

Get away from that and some get annoyed.

LMAO you are correct, sir. I've gotten pretty great feedback so far, most commenters sseem to be male though.

Trust me there are plenty of women reading incest. They end to drift more towards the tales that feature some romance.

I know incest romance is another "turn of phrase" but there is such a thing. Personally that's my kink. I am as interested in the emotional taboo of the attraction as the physical.

That's excellent insight, thank you.
