Now it's a waiting game. ...

Look at all the fucking fire experts in this thread!

''I can see blue sky. That must mean there's no fire and I'm safe.''

^ First person to die.
Pretty sure the first to die is the idiot sitting on a front porch live-blogging the fire instead of leaving when the fire is so close, not the morons on the internet thousands of miles away. But heck, you may be right, who am I to say.

There is no fire, remember?

Fyp. Yw.

Blue skies here mate. When the wind swings around we'll cop the smoke.
The fire's two buildings away, is it? And everyone's just hanging out, waiting for the wind to change, maybe they'll leave, maybe they won't?

I'm guessing not.

Fortunately, no.

That's the thing about fires, friend. They are unpredictable. They scare me.

How about you and I have a beer?

Dick

Two buildings away from my house is 4km.

I am down at the community dam, sitting in 2 feet of water in my car.

Any.

Time.

On me.

Now we're cooking with gas. Not tonight though mate. Cooking with gas, I mean. Salad for dinner. I'm not going anywhere near the oven.

We can shout each other. It'd be unAustralian of me otherwise.

So far, so good.
A few embers, but nothing uncontrollable.
Right now, I am sitting in the car in a couple of feet of water. If it gets too bad, I will leave the car and go into the middle of the dam.
My son is safe - his big brother came and got him a while ago.

Just watched the news coverage of the fires, in Victoria, NSW and Tasmania..it looked pretty scary, the presenter had a quick word with some of the people being evacuated in Tassie.

I kept wondering - is that you WQ?

I haven't been evacuated by the authorities.
I have made the decision to come down to the safest place because I need to keep both myself, and whatever I have in the car, safe.
I'm looking back up the hill, and so far my house is ok.

Right, we have been ordered to evacuate by the police.
The animals are free (all gates are open) andthe kidlet and I are about to leave.

Wish us luck!

Whoopsie-doodle.

I don't. Explain it for me.

About 1.5km from my home, a fire is blazing through forrestry plantations (these are plantations of eucalyptus trees that landowners are NOT allowed to go near).
I have been monitoring the fires for a few hours, and have made the decision to leave my home and go to my nearest safe place - a very large dam just down from my home.
I can see the fire, but now there is nothing I can do.
My son has been evacuated, and I am now sitting in my car just in the water.

This is as close as anyone ever wants to be to a major bushfire.
The current temp her is 51 deg C.
The wind is absolutely howling.

From here, there's not a lot I can do.
But I can see my house...... and so far, my house is ok.

Got it. The problem is that previously, you said this:

Right, we have been ordered to evacuate by the police.

Then you said this:

I haven't been evacuated by the authorities.

Hence the whoopsie-doodle. You forgot your previous lie. It happens in times of crisis, and also to people who lie.
