After digging around a bit I came upon a fairly succinct definition of 'Social Justice.'

"The fair and proper administration of laws conforming to the natural law that all persons, irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, etc., are to be treated equally and without prejudice."

This seems to be a straightforward definition with the caveat being as to how one chooses to define the word "treatment." For example from the National Association of Social Workers we get this;

"Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities."

Obviously they have chosen to include economic parameters into the definition. It is unclear as to what the threshold of this economic parity is or how it's arrived at. As a matter of fact the definition held to by the social workers seems to be in clear conflict with the previous definition.

The problem with "social justice" being used to justify/demand anything, especially when used by politicians, is the fact that without clear and specific statements as to the meaning we have no idea as to what that individual has internalized as far as what they mean. While the listener may be thinking in terms of one set of ideals the speaker may be thinking in terms of a completely different set of ideals that are in conflict with that of the listeners.

I'll reiterate what I have previously posted that once social justice exits the arena of equality of opportunity and enters the arena of equality of outcome social justice itself becomes an instrument of oppression.

No, it doesn't. The street workers definition is enhanced to the one above, and as he says "everyone deserves...", it doesn't make it a right. It just means that people can demand this without any moral conflict. It's another question, if they really get it in the end.

Making social justice quantifiable goes back to my statements on Codified law versus Natural Law and the Law of Equity...all statute-law driven jurisdictions have a balancing vein of law to compensate for the harshness of literal application.

It's a lot like macro versus micro economics as well. Each has their place in harmony with the other.

So, pure Communism doesn't attract for the same reasons as pure Capitalism has fallen out of favor.

Social Democratic models tend to produce the best overall results.

Look at any list of "countries with the best quality of life" and you'll find Social Democracies dominate the list.
