I had dinner and drinks tonight with an old friend. We got a nice chance to reminisce about glory days and solve all the worlds problems.

It may not sound too exciting to you younger folks, but spending time with the people you care about is what makes life worth living.

-43, Female - On the Valentine’s weekend a year and a half ago, my husband decided to take his younger lady colleague out for dinner. He did not understand why I was angry. He liked checking out younger women and made me feel like I was never quite good enough. All I got from him was a Happy Valentine text as he left for a business trip on Valentine’s day. Feeling angry and like a failure in every possible way, I went online and started chatting. I could not believe how many young men came to me, complimenting me, flirting with me. Soon, I was addicted, escaping into that world where I felt appreciated. I met a very interesting man in his mid-twenties a few months later, with whom I co-wrote stories on almost daily basis for months. His skills in English surpassed mine and I’ve learned immensely from our regular correspondences. One day, while sitting across the table from my husband, I wrote one of my most popular stories for that young virtual lover. It was my secret revenge. Thanks to him I’ve gained the strength and confidence I needed to break free from that unhealthy relationship and today, I am free and live my life to the fullest. If only my ex knew how many men now desire the woman he never appreciated.

So we're on some back highway in Arkansas and these two goons in a beat up old pickup truck start making vulgar gestures at the girl driving our car.

This reminds me of a time I was working on a project in grad school. I had to drive some back roads in Central Tx. And to get where I needed to be, I had to hike through some wild areas - lots of trees, shrubs, and vines.

As I was driving (alone) a beat up truck pulls up next to my car. It was a 2-lane highway. They were making vulgar gestures and trying to nudge me off the road. I waited until the shoulder widened up, slowed down and drove mostly on the shoulder so they could drive next to me and see into my car.

I'm sure they thought I was going to flash them. Instead I reached down to the passenger floorboard, picked up my machete that I used to clear the trails for me. I turned, held it up for him to see, and gave him the most evil & steely stare & smile that I could muster.

His eyes bulged - he looked like a cartoon character. He turned and hit the driver to get his attention- I couldn't hear him of course, but he was agitated. I saw him pointing at me so I rolled down the window and held my machete out so the driver could see... the driver floored it and they sped away.

It would have been SO much more fun to have two truckloads of burly SWAT men to take care of it, but I worked with what I had.

LOL but it seems like you and your machete did the trick just fine.

Just to be clear, we weren't actually SWAT, we were just training like them It';s a memory that will bring me joy for the rest of my life though.
