Thanks JB, that was interesting and makes me feel better about my creative style. Elmore starts with Characters and lets them run, kind of the way I have been doing when I'm in the groove.
I have been trying to "PLOT" story that I started as NANOWIMO and may be reaching the end of that process. I wrote 9 chapters (~106K words) and realized that it was only the opening for the story I wanted to write, so I have spent the last two years "plotting". But that has kept me from writing, because I have been avoiding making a mistake.
Of course Elmore and I have very little in common in sales.

Good characters are essential, of course. I simply believe that plot is essential, too. Plot is what characters react to. You really cant avoid plot.
