Why is this not a themed contest?

Steak and BJ Day

If we're talking about creating new themed writing contests for Lit, then I don't think "singles awareness day" makes the grade. It sounds pretty sad and dull. If you want a contest that contrasts to Valentine's Day and would prove wildly popular, not to mention a great deal of fun for writers and readers, then we ought to go for "Steak and BJ" day.

Now there's a day *made* for a Literotica themed writing contest.

OK, so, when is "Awareness he wasn't single" day?
lol - I don't know!

Oh, I like this one. :D A lot!

If we're coming up with new themed contests, there a plenty of weird and wonderful holidays...

Not sure who had the time to compile all of these, but I find myself a little scared, but a little excited too:

Why don't we try for 13th March? National Ear Muff Day!

Though 'Something on a Stick Day' might prove more fodder for plot bunnies :D

There's a day they could consider that would be right up Pilot's alley.

March 15th The Ides of March.

word is he's pretty good with a knife when the person's backs turned.

Fortunately he's too limp wrist-ed to do any actual damage.

Please, not here. Thank-you.

It couldn't be a separate theme contest, because it's too close to Valentine's Day, which is not going to be cancelled or replaced. I think it sounds too negative to be an alternative to Valentine's Day, but I am getting a plot bunny.

A guy was just dumped by his gf, and he is down in the dumps. To help get over her, he has signed up for some kind of volunteer work in the middle of Feb., and there he meets the girl of his dreams. This would probably be a romance or it might be E/C, and obviously blossoming into a romance. :)

Oh I don't want V-day replaced, team them together, could be fun. But realistically I wouldn't see them using this as a story contest. But there is definitely some plot potential.

I'd like to see about 6 or 8 new contests added, and then rotate the categories from year to year. Keep the two from the previous year that had the most entries, then add new themes to fill out the calendar. Shake it up a little to keep it fresh.

I'd like to see some different ones, but then again I honestly don't know how long the ones we've got have been around. Have we always had these to choose from or were some added here and there over the 10 years (?) that Lit.s been here? It is 10 right? (I'm not sure about that either)

Summer Loving, National Nude Day and Earth Day, I believe, were added quite recently, but the others have been around for longer. There used to be a "How to" contest.

I remember there was a How To - I can't remember if I entered that or not. lol I do remember there being one. I find Earth Day lacking in appeal. I managed something for it, but for me it's not a thrilling concept.

Nude Day is a great one obviously.

Box, Singles Awareness Day is Valentine's Day.

It's a fun idea to run parallel contests on the opposite side of the coin.

Red - This crazy world has com full circle!:)

St. Valentine's Day IS Singles Awareness Day - couples have just hijacked it.

In Ancient Rome, Feb 14 was the feast of Lupercalia where single girls went out in the town with a flower pinned to their dresses hoping to attract an eligible husband.

Cue the 19th century when the legend of St. Val was resurrected by greetings card manufacturers and you get the same trope. Singles were supposed to send anonymous Val Day cards to the girl/guy they secretely fancied and the recipient had to guess which girl/guy fancied him/her.

St. Valentine's Day isn't about loving couples, it's about unrequited love and singles need to reclaim it for their own. If you know the sender of the card or gift you receive, you've betrayed the ideal.

Tell that to Hallmark, American Greetings, FTD, and Russell Stover. I think they might have another interpretation.

I love history.

My first V-day entry - The Story of Valentine - was a history lesson and of course fictional erotic lesson about Valentine, the Catholic Bishop, later given Sainthood.
