Valentine's Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Og, I did! The summer lovin' sweep happened at the very last moment it seemed. I was up to 35 votes and got swept to 24 (then right after winners announced went back to 25) and it had stayed at a steady 4.4-4.68 most of that time. :)

Theft?

My V-Day story is "Sue Has a New Boyfriend." In just 2 days, my vote total went down from 77 to 46. Yesterday, I sent an email asking about this to Literotica, but have yet to receive a response.

I'm new, here. Am I the victim of vote-stealing?

No. You have been swept by the bot that removes dubious votes.

I happens to most of the contestants and happens several times during the last few days of the contests.

It hurts! But sometimes it improves your rating.

Thanks for the quick education!

That's OK.

Hint: Emails to Literotica frequently go unanswered.

If you have a question, the Authors' Hangout can answer most but if not, a PM (Personal Message) to the site owners is more effective than an email.

For technical questions about the operation of the site, a PM to Manu is appropriate.

For questions about stories, the forums etc, a PM to Laurel is better.

The contacts for them are in the stickies (the permanent threads at the top of the Authors' Hangout).

If you look at the thread "Welcome Authors! Please Read" you will find links to FAQs etc.

Unfortunately, announcing your score usually results in subsequent bombing runs -- especially if that score is high.

Those troll votes are usually obvious, so the sweeps wipe a lot of them out, but it's not foolproof. Best thing to do is keep your score to yourself until the contest is over.

Now see, I thought this, and then I told myself not to be so mean and cynical, lol.

Anyway. I got some awesome writing news today: going to have some work featured on a big lit agent's blog. So take that, one-bombers! Go on, hate me just a liiiiiiittle bit more! :p

Thanks, I wondered what was happening, too.

Oh, and congrats, Firebrain! That sounds exciting! (And I'd like butter and maple syrup on mine, thanks.)

Just read yours, SweetMerry, and enjoyed it a lot. I do like stories with supernatural beings. Hope it does well.

I've been a member here for how many years and I still haven't done a contest. Is it wrong to want to do one when you're working on another story?

Hi, Zodia. To answer your first question, you have been a member for almost four years. To answer your second question, there is nothing wrong with working on many stories at the same time, including even more than one contest entry. :)

Zodia, love your quote! That's my tagline on most everything (except here). "I'm/am not weird, I'm gifted!" It gives men fair warning *chuckles* You should submit a story to a contest sometime :)

[poses with frying pan] Who wants to make puns about being covered in syrup and batter? :D

Probably opening myself up to a good, hard trolling, lol, but..
(Hmmm.. kinda just got stuck on the previous sentence..)

4.62.. 324 votes, and 11,353 views.

4.61.. 324 votes..? and 11,798 views.

This contest number-vote-trolling-sweeping phenomenon just befuddles me. :p

It does befuddle most of us. We don't understand how it works and Literotica is rightly secretive about it otherwise some would try to cheat the system.

The number of votes for MY contest entries is far larger, even after the repeated sweeps, than for my other stories.

My score is doing as it usually does...tanking. I don't care what anyone says, I KNOW I'm getting trolled. If only the sad little trolls knew that I don't CARE if I win the contest. I never expect to win. I submit in a genre that people can't just click on and read during their lunchbreak. I get lots of kudos from actual authors and readers who enjoy my work AND the people who pay me to create fantasy for them.

Congrats Firebrain! That's great. Your writing definitely deserves the attention of an agent.

Hehe thanks, I am glad you like my quote. I got if off an actual key chain I have. I have other quotes too that I find amusing. Like these:

Let's see how bad I can be and still go to Heaven.
Heaven won't take me and Hell's afraid I'll take over.

Anyway, thanks for the support. Are contest entries usually one-shots?

The day I even see 100 votes is a day of extreme celebration. I got as high as 98, back in the 05 holiday contest, but have barely hit the 50 vote mark since.

Shameless plug: http://www.literotica.com/s/whatever-you-wish

I'm always surprised to hear that some authors get a low number of votes.
As most who write on the contests thread know, I always receive a lot of votes. One thing to remember is that not all votes are good ones. In fact my lower vote stories seem to do the best at times.

I have three stories in the contest. Even after a couple of sweeps, the vote totals are still fairly high.
Story 1 Mr. Lonely votes 726 Reads 18536 first time
Story 2 The Dicision votes 393 Reads 45093 Nonconsent/Reluctent
Story 3 Valentines day Remembered
votes 189 Reads 3774 non erotic

Category does make a difference as do number of reads. I relly do hope all receive enough votes in the contest and hope they are good ones. Thank you to those on the threads who have voted and read my stories (especially those who have left comments) to me it's not about winning but having my stories read and commented on. Even negative comment let me know my stories are being read.
With respect and the best of luck to all the authors

If it makes you feel any better, I am now totally addicted to the Lit audio section. I'd never listened to one before your contest entry.

There goes my frickin' weekend, lol!

May I recommend Dancing With You? It was only the second one I ever recorded, but it's still pretty popular. Not nearly as complex as Zen Love Everlasting.

I've been addicted to audio for most of my life. Should we seek a 12-step program together, darling?
