Valentine's Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Ravenfox: Me too! How am I going to face real people *gasp* while I'm a-flustered? *grumbles and composes* Such fun! I'm waiting for a good chunk of alone time to listen to your story: a challenge right now.

I'm slowly meandering my way through the stories, as I wait for my newest story to post (non-contest entry). I'm a bit anxious about it and really would love some feedback. Once it is up, I'll update on it.

I'm looking forward to vote sweeps. I think all the rats came out of the woodwork to hit my story. I hope that Lit's anti-troll program can search and destroy!!!

And the troll voting has begun. I flew under the radar for most of the day, but I suddenly got eight votes and went from 4.71 to 4.57. That seems a bit much to me. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes my dear you are wrong!

F.Y.I.:
4.71 times 20 = 94.20
4.57 times 28 = 127.96

Which means that the eight “supposed troll” votes gave you approximately 34 points which works out to an average of 4.25!

Now “Four Stars” is supposed to mean “Really Liked It – Good Read”. Which means these bad little trolls rated you higher than “Really Liked It” and yet you’re STILL moaning in protest.

Stop complaining and get a life…

I just hope that Lit's anti-troll program can search out and destroy mathematical midgets !!!

There is no way of knowing what the last eight votes were. They might have been six votes of "4" and two of "5" which would total 34. Or, they might have been six votes of "5" and two of "2." That would also total 34, and the last two votes could fairly be called trolling. :(

Ten days until Valentine's Day. Who's writing something for their sweetheart?

Just a little coupon for birthday sex attached to an example fantasy. She'll be reading it at work, too. Can't wait to see her face go red...

However, I am NOT going to fuck her in the women's room. Again. It's far from romantic <.<'

My significant other refuses to read anything I write :( , especially the Honey-Do lists I leave on the fridge, lol. Forget the romance, I'm looking forward to my new Dooney and Bourke bag!

I just did a story about quicky restroom sex! You're right, it's not romantic. But BOY can it be hot!

That sounds like a wonderful gift. :)

I have some questions AHers/Contestees:

So has anyone's SO not accepted/enjoyed the fact that you write erotica?
Or is jealous that you aren't always writing about them?
And that you are thinking about other "people"?
Any of them in the dark and not know that little secret?
Do you keep this separate from your waking life? You don't show anyone that you personally know, what you write?
Are any of you more adventurous in your writing than you are in "real life"?
Do you write things that you don't agree with believe in/outside your morals, and if so WHY? HOW?

Yup, full of questions today (as little or as many as you want). Thanks for humoring me!

Ravenfox -- thank you for the rec, it's lovely of you to say! I shall listen to yours when the small one is in bed (I've never listened to any of the Lit audios so I'm intrigued to see what goes on in them, lol!).

My husband knows what I write but he doesn't read it. He's not much of a reader, though; that's all it is. Our relationship is open so there's no issue over content.

Most people I know, know what I write -- mainly because I pimp it out to them, lol. Everyone's a market, people! :p My writing reflects my life and my experiences (the more sensual, cerebral side of BDSM, and poly issues).

My grandparents know that I write rude things. That's about it, though; I wouldn't want them to read it and they don't want to read it anyway. When I told my mother, the conversation went something like this:

Mom: well, I'm very open minded. You can't shock me. Send it on.
Me: Okaaaay then.
Mom: I mean, so long as there's no rape.
Me: ...only the pretend kind.
Mom: [bulging eyes]

She didn't say much to me when I asked her if she liked it...

My wife has no idea I write erotica. She thinks I'm spending all this time writing mainstream only. Luckily I can write three times faster than she--and my mainstream publisher--think I can write. :)

FIREBRAIN: *laughs* I had the creativity sucked out of me whilst being married, other than an occasional poem. I didn't even realize the negative impact he had on my muse until he was gone and I was writing again.

I have a fun coming-out-of-the-naughty-story-closet too, involving my whole family! I love the eye bulge.

PILOT, that just cracks me up. How can you keep such a secret with the volume of writing you do and the publishing? Wow! Or are you being facetious?

OK, keep them coming (pun intended). I'll share my answers in awhile. I was just taking a break and thought it would be fun :)

No, not making it up. My wife certainly knows I'm bi--or at least was--and so was she, when necessary. (It went with our jobs.) She just thinks that I'm an old, monogamous recluse now, though, editing academic foreign policy books and writing thriller novels under my own name and cozy mysteries under female pen names. I published forty-five titles last year (and have already published four this year, with another thirteen banked and waiting to be published). She only knows of about 10 of them from last year. But, as that alone came to nearly 400,000 words, she thinks that was enough.

open heart

:heart:Contest fever is finally subsiding. Not sure why I feel the need to check my score so much. I guess because it's such a thrill to know that people are actually reading what I wrote. Thanks so much to those who have commented on Nose & Toes. It means a lot!

Only one more day for contest entries to be submitted...

...and then the vote-begging, the sweeps and the repeated trolling starts.

Nope. My honey knows. He doesn't care. Sometimes he pouts if I'm spending more time on the computer than with him. But I always try to make it up to him. :catroar:

Or is jealous that you aren't always writing about them?
And that you are thinking about other "people"?
He has no idea what I write about, lol. He's never read any of it.. he's not a reader.

Do you keep this separate from your waking life? You don't show anyone that you personally know, what you write?
No one knows that I even write stuff like this, other than my fiance, my best friend and my sister. :) My best friend is the only one thats ever read anything. I'm actually currently working on a story for her, inspired by an Avon catalog. Scary huh? LOL. My sister would like to read, I think, but it's kind of awkward discussing sex stuff with your 17 year old sister, let alone having her read your smutty brain's imaginings. :D :p

Are any of you more adventurous in your writing than you are in "real life"?
I don't think so...? lol. Mostly the sex in my stories is real sex I've had. :) The stories I wrote back when I was a virgin aren't up anymore. hehe.

Do you write things that you don't agree with believe in/outside your morals, and if so WHY? HOW?
No. :( I'm rather boring. lol.

Yup, full of questions today (as little or as many as you want). Thanks for humoring me!
That was fun! lol.

Whew. I finally got my story submitted. And this will be my first serious story on Lit! I hate Valentine's day, so that didn't help all that much... I just had to go 'okay, now, how can I put a twist on the idea'... I am going to get so down-voted it won't even be funny. Well, I hope I won't. I hope some people like my little story. And vote so that it's eligible... now to wait for approval!

I've read a few of the submissions. Some are pretty fun! (jealous)

I'm sure I won't be the last to sneak in an entry near the end!

So has anyone's SO not accepted/enjoyed the fact that you write erotica N/A, but when it was, oh yeah, they enjoyed.

Or is jealous that you aren't always writing about them? No, they loved it! and found it sexy.

And that you are thinking about other "people"? Most people fantasize, whether they openly admit it or not. Just look at us and our readers!

Any of them in the dark and not know that little secret? I sometimes get shy about telling new men about it. Super shy about reading my own writing to people. Not as shy reading other people's.

Do you keep this separate from your waking life? You don't show anyone that you personally know, what you write? I've begun breaking the mold and showing people. Some find it suprising and delightful. Some just accept it. Others aren't interested. My friends are my biggest fans and support. I've turned several to the naughty side. *wicked gleam* I give warning and if I know it might offend someone, I'll steer them away from a story. I do this with family. Some read it, enjoy it, but I know what they can handle. *laughs* I'd love for my sister to read, but she isn't interested. My mom has been known to spread around my stories to coworkers and friends *haha*

Are any of you more adventurous in your writing than you are in "real life"? Only lately! Although, right now I get pretty adventurous with myself ;)

Do you write things that you don't agree with believe in/outside your morals, and if so WHY? HOW? Not really. Although, I am working on broadening my horizons and stepping outside of my comfort zone a bit more. We'll see what the future holds!

I think I might have done something really stupid.
I didn't realize the deadline was tomorrow. I was waiting on my editor to send me back my story but he never did. Now I have sent it to another editor but I don't think he checks his emails on weekend.
I'm still thinking it's January.
Just submit it to the contest, email the editors and say you're thankful for the time they would have taken but you need to meet this deadline. I'd offer to burn through it like lightning for you but we might be pushing the deadline since I couldn't do it until after work tomorrow.

PrincessErin,

What Noira says makes sense. If you submit it and get it in for deadline, you could go back in and edit it after, if you so choose.

Ten days until Valentine's Day. Who's writing something for their sweetheart?

The good friendship I've got with a long-time-ago ex is heating back up. I'm giving serious thoughts of writing something for her as an "I'm up for it if you are" Valentine's gift. Finger's crossed!

I have some questions AHers/Contestees:

Um, not so far. I'm new at writing on a regular basis, but so far I haven't gotten any negative feedback from those that know.

Or is jealous that you aren't always writing about them?
Don't think so. But, I don't have an official person to be jealous at the moment.

And that you are thinking about other "people"?
(See above answer.)

Any of them in the dark and not know that little secret?
Ya, I haven't told everyone. I sent out an invitation to certain friends when I started blogging, but I'm not out about it on facebook or with most family.

Do you keep this separate from your waking life? You don't show anyone that you personally know, what you write?
If my hobbies come up in conversation, and I think the person may be uneasy with it, I usually say that I write romantic short stories. I then move on to knitting and baking, which seem to go over well with everyone. ;)

Are any of you more adventurous in your writing than you are in "real life"?
Yup. The stories I'm writing right now are my fantasies. Some of them I'm not even seriously interested in acting out. They're just fun to play with on paper (or on keyboard).

Do you write things that you don't agree with believe in/outside your morals, and if so WHY? HOW?
Ya, I do. I wrote a little story about cheating lately and that definitely isn't on my list of things I'm ok with. I've also got some "come on baby, pleeease?" nonconsent story ideas floating around in the back of my head. In my mind, once someone says "No," that's the end of discussion. But, not everyone takes no as an answer, and can wheedle a reluctant yes out of their partner.

I guess I'm writing them as a cathartic exercise. They help me take a look at my feelings about the subject, to really get a handle on why I react the way I do to those situations.

Yup, full of questions today (as little or as many as you want). Thanks for humoring me!
Thanks for asking!
