Earlier this afternoon the wife and I were out in the yard doing some work when I heard a noise I haven't heard in quite some time. I recognised it though even though I have rarely heard it.

Radial Engines. WTF?

Looking around I soon saw them. A flight of six aircraft flying in a wedge formation maybe a thousand foot up. I didn't recognijse the type because they were too far away but I did recognise the direction of flight.

I did some research and found they are the Geico Skywriters and were heading south from the Cocoa Beach Air Show. Cool, it's not often you see the old T-6 Texans in flight and even rarer that you see a formation of them.

The second surprise was what I found as I was walking through the neighborhood. Some guy was getting ready to move and he had stacked at the side of the road for the trash guys a large metal smoker as well as six (Count them count, Six) nearly brand new 20 pound Propane tanks in mint condition. When I saw the guy I asked him about them and he admitted he was tossing them. I told the wife to watch them and ran back to the place for our car. Now I have six tanks sitting in the shed waiting to be filled. (This along with my three tanks I've been using.) I now also have a larger, better made smoker than I've been using, also in mint condition. (I don't think the guy ever used it.)

Tomorrow I'll go and get the tanks filled then start seasoning the smoker.

Go for it Cat. Mostly I rely on the System, but self-sufficiency is a good thing (even if it is sufficiency via the system). I have bottled gas heaters as well as the piped gas heating.

There isn't enough burnable wood available!

Nah, you have to understand where and how I live.

Propane is an integral part of my Hurricane Kit, just as Gasoline and food are.

Also I do a lot of my cooking outside on the grill or in the smoker, if for no other reason than to keep the heat outside of my place. Besides, I like good BBQ but I hate paying what the restaraunts charge for it.

T-6's are a cool bird and there are a lot of them still flying. They were built tough being designed as pilot trainers. I've seen the ones that were modified to resemble Zero's, Kate's and Val's for the movie 'Tora, Tora, Tora'. Talk about cool.

It's amazing what people will throw out and/or put in garage sales. I've picked up some perfectly good yard equipment like edgers and trimmers and tools of all kinds for nickels and dimes.
