"This president has done an incredible job. He’s kept his promises.”

People here seem to forget that he didn't "promise" us a summer of recovery, it was more of a forecast...

Signing $3,300,000,000,000.00 in "Stimulous" is more than a forecast. Look around you. What exactly has been "Stimulated"?

Yet, if you're a US citizen you personally owe 'more than $135,000.00 to the Imperial Federal Government - far and above any taxes you pay.

It's imposed slavery by the ruling class of both political parties and somebody sometime will have to pay your (and my) debt.

In our nation of rapidly growing "need" vs a shrinking populace of "ability" that bill will come due sooner than you think.

Respecting Federal constraints laid out within the constitution is a start for recovery.

Just print more worthless money. It's a quick temporary fix before they leave office.

Technically, that says he's kept about 1/4 of his promises, with his term basically half over from a legislative support standpoint.

I don't know that "in progress" or "stalled" are different things.

Most of the promises kept were easy ones, e.g. continuing Bush's Iraq drawdown. Whereas, last time I checked, Gitmo was still open.

In progress generally means he's implemented work to keep his promise and it's either currently going through the senate or passed but takes a while to implement.

Considering how your parlamentary system is set up, should a presidental candidate really make promises?

Here's an example that doesn't align with what you just said:

"We note that the budget proposal is just that, a proposal. It's a long process to move a budget through Congress. And it's worth noting that pharmaceutical companies donate gobs of money to politicians, many of whom will vote on all of this. So this promise has a long way to go. Nevertheless, by including these measures in his first budget plan, Obama has set things in motion. And so we move it to In the Works. "

They consider anything mentioned in a proposal as "in the works", even if it has no chance of becoming law.

They have to sign all bills before they become law, practically speaking that is, so their opinion is important. It's easier for a president to prevent something than to make something new happen.

Seeing as how we don't have a parliamentary system then is it OK if a candidate makes promises?

We have what is called a Presidential system
