I am about to buy my first single tail whip. I am interested in hearing from people who use whips and also those whom the whips are used on.
I want to know what type to buy...signal, black snake, bull? I think the length will be 4 ft so I can use it in limited space (inside). I am not interested in popping or showing off, only in using it on my beautiful sub.
Please help.
Please don't just read this and move on. I am serious about wanting this information.

Once upon a time, I was neighbor to this guy Joe Wheeler and learned a little bit from him. Needless to say, I'm pretty sold on his work-- having watched him make the things, I know how meticulous he is!

I have a six-foot blacksnake that he made. I haven't played with it in a long time, but it doesn't take that long to get decent with aim and range etc-- you can scrape the hell out of your own ass while you're learning though!

Thanks

Thanks for the information. I have seen his whips online. I am really surprised that no one seems to have any information to share.

You might like to do a search on here as there are a few threads where such things have been discussed. You might like to look into kangaroo leather as the leather of choice. I for one can swear to its beauty in all ways.

It's hard to find a bullwhip in lengths under 6'. Most people that I know throwing 3' and 4' whips use signal whips and snake whips. One of the defining characteristics that differentiated the signal whip from a snake whip was the signal whip having a cracker that was braided into the leather. However, a lot of whipmakers are now making their signals with crackers that can be replaced (it's easier to replace when you draw blood for example) specifically because of the kink crowd. :D

While I can certainly appreciate the quality of a Joe Wheeler whip, the price (and wait) may be exorbitant. Joe's stuff ain't cheap, and last I heard he was backlogged about 2 years on orders. He may have cleared out the backlog.

Good quality whips can be had for less money and with shorter waits. Some merchants who make whips I own personally and would buy from again, or I am very familiar with and would willingly buy from are:

Bill Stevenson, whipmaker (website is currently being re-done but he will reply to emails.)

Victor Tella - Snakewhip.com

Axel Wright - OWhips

Good luck with your search!

The biggest consideration might be the space you're working in. My former Domme had two bullwhips, but she didn't use them very often because of space issues. Frequently, if she had enough room to swing the big one, we were way exposed to non-kinksters. The thing is, with practice and skill, you can give a lot of the same sensations with a signal whip. She gave me a wide array of sensations.... She was actually more versatile with the smaller ones. You can aim better and she said it was easier to vary the stroke because you didn't need as much brute strength to use it.

I actually prefer the thudier feel of a flogger to a singletail, so she would usually start with a flogger and switch after I was warmed up. It was nice. To put it mildly.
