What I Hate About Obama...

Uh no, box, you are looking left when you should be looking right.

I doubt that even more. Had the Reps wanted to do anything such as you are intimating, the time to do it would have been right after the 2004 election. They had majorities in both houses of Congress and the presidency and the nation was in two wars that hadn't yet gone sour. There was the outside threat that was even stronger than it is now.

In other words, that would have been the time for the "temporary measures" that would have become permanent, but nothing happened. There wasn't even any credible threat of it happening.

Now, we have a young, intelligent president whose party controls both houses of Congress, the same two wars that are even less popular and an economic crisis. Obama was elected by a substantial majority; he is looked on by some as a savior and he is ambitious and wants to make major changes.

I don't believe it will actually happen, but he has always been surrounded by radicals, one of whom recently resigned his newly created appointive office. He is probably a bigger threat to become some kind of permanent dictator than anybody since FDR. :(

However, to repeat what I said and what I said in my earlier post, I don't believe it will ever be allowed to happen. His opponents are smart enough to see and nip any such attempts in the bud.

My problem is, Obama thinks he is still campaigning. He has the oratory and keeps making uplifting speeches - kids should work hard, poor people should have health cover, remember the Cairo speech? - but he seems not to understand he is chief of the executive.

The best presidents have always grafted, in your face sessions with congressmen and senators, LBJ, Reagan and even Clinton were past masters of the down and dirty stuff. Obama, whilst happily playing in the pork-barrel, tries to play Mother Teresa and equating himself to papal level.

Hillary, can we have a putsch?

I agree on this characterization on where Obama is trotting in place. Unfortunately, the place was back in the primaries, not here and now.

What is it about a tinfoil hat? I don't believe Obama is likely to establish any kind of dictatorship, but his chances of doing so are greater than those of anybody else, at least right now. You know, there are left wing dictatorships, just as there are those of the right.

ETA: Or, you can see my previous post:

So freakin' wierd. :confused::eek::confused::eek::confused:

What is weird about suggesting than an elected chief executive might be able to pull off some kind of putsch and become dictator? It wouldn't be the first time in history that such a thing has happened. I don't expect it to happen, but there is a possibility. Right now, the possibility of Obama doing this is greater than the chance of anybody else doing it.

Yep, friggin weird. (Was that Millard Fillmore who did this?):eek::confused::eek::confused:

You conspiracy theorists almost make me believe UFOs really are landing and offloading.

I'm no conspiracy theorist. I was just responding to what sounded like a conspiracy prediction that Rob posted. Personally, I don't believe anything of the kind will happen, but I must admit it is possible.

he was being sarcastic, Box.

The anti-Obama sentiments expressed in this thread are sarcasm-- we are parrotting the weird bullshit the anti-Obama nutjobs have been saying, and making fun of it.

What Rob meant, when he said "Obama might be the last president" was NOT that he himself would stage a takeover, but that there are many circumstances that make our democracy, and our nation, more fragile than it ever has been.

If you believe in the possibility that Obama is conspiring or wants to conspire to suspend democracy and make himself a dictator, then yes, you are by definition a conspiracy theorist.

That's what the word means: Someone touting a theory that there's a conspiracy going on.

Whether you think Obama's conpiracy will suceed or not is irrelevant.

note to box

He and some of his liberal allies might want to set up some kind of socialistic dictatorship, but I doubt that he would be able to pull it off. I certainly hope not.

you are a silly guy. don't you know hardcore muslims abhor socialism. obama is actually on the way to Iranian style 'islamic republic' with Rev. Wright [also crypto muslim] as the Chief Ayatollah. (remember Obama's bow to the King of Saudi Arabia?)

Exactly Stella. Geez...I thought the people posting in this thread realized that the sentiments posted here were sarcasm. *shakes head*

There needs to be a universal font for sarcasm.

This is what Rob said:
What I hate about Obama is he's probably the last President of the United States of America.

That was his entire post. Does that sound like sartcasm or does it sound like a prediction?

I responded by saying:

He and some of his liberal allies might want to set up some kind of socialistic dictatorship, but I doubt that he would be able to pull it off. I certainly hope not.

Then Stella got involved and said:

To which I responded:

For the record, I strongly doubt there are any high level plots including either Dems or Reps to overthrow the government or establish any kind of dictatorship. I also don't believe Obama is a Muslim, although it is common knowledge he attended a Muslim school in Indonesia. I also believe he was born in Hawaii.

Yes, well, he's always been more conservative than the dogmatic reactionaires would let themselves think--
Guess I'm not a dogmatic reactionaire, then. I tried to tell folks he was moderate, but nooooooooooo... they all insisted he was so far left he couldn't even smell the right. *shrug*

I voted for him. I'm one of those tree-hugging liberals. Ain't regretting my decision. The man's impressive in every way.

The right is so far right that a genuine centrist looks like a commie pinko socialist spawn of the devil to them.

And they seem to feel that anyone who voted for Obama is also a commie pinko socialist.

Actually I was damn happy to have a centrist to vote for.

And please, please never forget that we were looking at the strong possibility of a President Palin.

Seriously, stop dragging the man down, and stop acting like we all had stars in our eyes when we voted for him.

They did, I promise.

Maybe so, but Liar insisted I was a "conspiracy theorist" even I said repeatedly that I believed there was no conspiracy afoot and Pure nattered away about Muslims and Socialism, even though I had never mentioned Muslims until then, and I don't believe that Obama is a Muslim.

Really Box? I took you off ignore to find this? You think Obama is more of a threat than Dick Cheney was? Dude! Were you even awake during the last 8 years?

Oh never mind. The entertainment value of your posts isn't worth the aggravation. You can now rejoin your pals on the koolaid list.

The idea that you would take Rob's comment seriously, or enlarge on it, makes me wonder about you, dude. Not saying you're a conspiracy theorist, but I always wonder why you decide to focus on-- whatever single crumb out of the whole loaf of bread it is that you do focus on.

it's wierd to me.
