What happened after Casablanca?

I’m of the opinion that we should frequently leave well enough alone. What is discussed here sounds similar to comments on my stories asking for another chapter or asking what happened next. Many times the best stories end without a neat, tidy or happy ending (though I don’t mean to imply that my stories are in the ’best’ category.)

But like the Casablanca sequel I mentioned, there are heaps of series and movies out there that could have gone in other directions. Put it this way, at one point Rick says to Ilsa, "We'll always have Paris." The movie doesn't go into what they did in Paris. Hints only, of course. There could be a story or two there?

I think it's strongly hinted at that "Paris" is Rick and Ilsa's love child (hint: "We'll always have Paris.") Rick keeps her hidden away in a backroom of the bar. Ilsa comes looking for her, but Rick persuades her she's not there, and Ilsa leaves with Lazlo. Lazlo dies in the war, Ilsa returns and reunites with Rick and Paris, and they end up moving to Australia. Paris inherits Ilsa's strangely out of focus but undeniably pretty face.

I’ll give you an example. Most of us know the movie, Casablanca. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it. The story comes together with a very tidy conclusion: We see the plane take off that has Ilsa and Laszlo on board. There’s a tense scene that ultimately ends with Rick killing the German officer, but Louis protects Rick by deflecting blame. Now both Rick and Louis are in trouble, and the film ends with them both walking into the misty darkness of the airfield with the notion that they will both have to get out of Casablanca.

So what did Rick and Louis do after that final scene? There was no follow up movie.
"Passage to Marseille" is often considered an unofficial "sequel" to Casablanca.

Pretty much all my stories are parody. Believable parody of stuff in the public domain.

It’s possible Anne McCaffrey is one of those authors who dislikes fanfic. Or maybe she was okay with it, just not on porn sites. Or maybe it doesn’t matter because she’s been dead since 2011. Ive heard conflicting reports. I’ve also never read her work, just heard of it. I suspect this is one of those situations where Laurel has the final word on what sort of fanfic can be published here.
If anybody's interested, a good example of what might be acceptable is Eric Flints 1632 series. He publicly opened the setting to others to write stories with a few caveats. The main one was you couldn't use any existing characters without the permission of that character's creator. Also, no handwavium. They are able to accelerate progress, but have to work within what were the existing constraints at the time. Several published SF&F authors got their start sriting for that series.

Her son inherited her literary estate and, while he doesn't endorse fanfic, he is basically on record as, "don't ask, don't tell." Or, in other words, they won't do anything about it unless it cuts into their profits or reputation.
