Is Moderation in political viewpoint an option on the GeeBee?

I've just come back after a fairly long hiatus, and it appears that the discourse is even more acrimonious than when I was on Lit regularly, before. I used to garner a lot of info. about US and British issues, but now I'm wondering why I bother.

I'm curious... is it all about the argument?

A porn board is a poor source of political information to begin with.

I don't think the GB is moderated at all anyway, and I certainly wouldn't envy anyone THAT job. >_>

Perhaps. but there are a great many intelligent folks from ALL viewpoints who post, or used to be.

To a certain extent I think it is. I have noticed the willingness of some to push the recognition of hypocrisy aside and support the political stance of "their party" and damn those of the other side regardless of how hypocritical it makes them. Many of the staunch supporters have a spinning moral compass. People misrepresent each other's points in order to argue what they want to argue versus the points actually made in the post. Hyperbole abounds.

The current health care thread on Lint is a refreshing example of thoughtful debate.

When group identity politics take over and government grows into a socialist tyranny of the Elites and begins to reward groups (usually an identified victim) then they, in the name of eliminating private (unfair and evil) competition (even on the playground, I might add), foster a competition for the spoils of the public sector for who want to be the group out of favor paying for the largess to the favored group?

Thus we get two types of competition which begin to tear down civilization; those who jockey and fight to prove their victimhood (Rand's factory, the one John Galt walked away from abandoning the motor that would enrich everyone's lives by creating opportunity) and those who pursue the power to award the dwindling spoils of the nation which leads to Machaivelli's strong man (or Hitler, as pointed out by Hayek as the looted banded together to protect themselves).

It's contentious because the rewards for winning the debate too great and the punishment for losing the debate too severe.

Do we go gently into the yoke for a proffered carrot, or do we fight for the right to graze freely?

It's never about the argument, but how many people one can insult before saying "I won."

Won what?
I don't know, but it must be of some import.
They keep coming back.

Frisco, hush and take your Ritalin. You have 9 trillion dollars in debt to repay, so get busy.

Hmm. Maybe the "used to" ones are posting as alts now?

Well, I've gathered that... I never followed name changes much, so I can blunder into argument when I find i'm dealing with a familiar shit-stirrer by another name.

I did it with Cap'n A_J yesterday, I believe.

Not that my Fascist Brethren are shit stirrers, or anything!!! :D:D

Yeah... that's what I've been seeing, too. I've just gotten back to Lint, as well, so i'll have to read that one more carefully.

Oh, BTW., Red

See, THAT's why I continue to read what you write, Flatlander... I have to sift through the doctrinaire and the outright provocative, but your Libertarian passion comes out, eventually.

I may not agree with your "take" on stuff, but sans insults, it is interesting, sometimes

Yeah... up here, we're "sheep" apparently, and the win/lose thing isn't so much important as consensus-building.

Lotus, you are STILL as hawt as ever, Ma'am.

Not really, it's more like a Part A, Part B thing. Gotta layout the argument, what
criteria is required for a win, etc.

tyvm, Jimi, I do try and stuff.

Plain and simple the GB is a place for lowlife people that enjoy attention, verbal rants with no meaning and to escape the sad life they are trying to avoid at home.

I never bother to read any of the threads anymore since it's basically a waste of my time.

First thing you notice when you come here is the 15 to 20 regulars that come here every day and spend endless hours here posting to each other, all of them with alts to backup their claims of superior rants.

Don't hate the site, hate the losers that come here and spend all day and night making threads not worth reading.
