I am curious how many people visit this site and might play second life i have run into a person that is into BDSM life style but plays this computer game alot any opinions please?

Been there, done that. Wasn't very impressed. I hear some good stuff goes on, like with autistic kids, but if you're not into cyber there's not much there.

I like 2nd life. I certainly disagree that there's not much there if you don't dig cyber (I don't), but equally I think it's of limited use in terms of doing anything 'real life'.

There's a worrying trend, especially in BDSM circles, of people trying to cross over into real life, and indeed treating you as 'dishonest' if you are simply living your second life rather than being yourself there, so IMHO as a social networking/BDSM scene/personals type thing, it's of very limited use, and probably comes with more drama than it's worth.

On the other hand, it's a fascinating cyber reality created by the users' imagination, and almost anything can happen there. I usually go there to party, listen to music, hang out with cool people and see some incredible creativity and imagination at work. I find I naturally end up hanging out with BDSM folks, but that's just due to common interest really.

If you are looking for something fulfilling on a BDSM level, I feel RL has infinitely more to offer.

It's scary to me that there is even a comparison or consideration.

Without kicking off one of those "online vs. real life" debates that everybody has an opinion on and that always end in tears, if you are of the online persuasion why in God's name choose Second Life as your stomping ground?

Well for those of the online persuasion, I guess the virtual reality aspect, and interaction of avatars, plus the control possibilities of Restrained life viewer, and the ability to take part in social events gives it the edge over say messenger chat.

Not an online type m'self when it comes to the lifestyle, but I can certainly see why SL interaction has the edge on pure chat.

Sorry I'm confused. Probably my age.

You quoted my reply saying that SL offered little in regards to BDSM, but was fun anyway - what was it that you found scary?

That threads like this even exist. That it's prevalent enough to even discuss. I honestly really don't get it. Is it like my 1st life is so horrible that I'm going to escape into a 2nd life, where I can be what I want? I mean why not just change your life if you're unhappy.

Maybe that has nothing to do with it..I have no idea. But that is scary to me. And kind of sad.

Ah OK.

Nah, nothing like that for me... just a fun way to see what other people have in their imaginations, and meet some interesting folk.

Sure it's a bit of fun fantasy, but no more than reading a novel or watching a movie - I totally dig my real life, but I don't see why it's sad to have a hobby LOL

I was on second life for a while, and it was actually where I kind of discovered BDSM. I took it offline, thankfully, but not everybody can. I met people there who are in such a situation in their life that 2nd life was their only outlet. One woman I met was sick and couldn't leave the house very often, another had an online D/s relationship there because he was a local politician and couldn't risk being discovered. I don't think online BDSM (on 2nd life or elsewhere) should have a blanket condemnation, because its impossible to know everybodies situation.

As a hobby, I can see that. I guess I was thinking of people who get too involved it it.

I'm sorry syd! I can see it being a good outlet in those circumstances. :rose:

I agree. So long as people are bright enough to keep some perspective and see it for what it is I see no harm in online interaction of any sort really. Besides the situations you suggest, some people just like playing around online, but would have no interest in living it for real... so what? Would we condemn people for reading an SM themed book because they are not 'the real deal'?

Personally I don't see what guys get from watching other guys playing team sports, but I'd never suggest it was because they had a desperate desire to be *real* athletes. The internet is a fascinating way to encounter points of view and views you may never come across in everyday life, and I think interactive entertainment like SL is a lot more positive and inspiring than traditional passive media.

But then I'm fascinated by other people, and their ideas... I guess if all you want is your immediate circle of friends and that art that the entertainment industry offers on a plate there's no harm in that either.

Ah... OK I can agree with that. For sure I've come across people who take Second life *far* too seriously, and yeah, that's kinda sad, but it doesn't devalue the media... just reflects on them really.

A bit like the difference between going to see a Star Trek movie, and buying a uniform and insisting you are really a Klingon

For some reason I always seem to come across the latter.

No need to apologize! I totally understand where you are coming from, but thought that the other side needed some explaining, too. I haven't been on SL for over a year, but I still feel like I need to defend it, and the friends I had there, lol.

00Syd - totally off topic, for which I apologise, but I just have to say thank you so much for the link to the MC5 clip in your sig - hadn't seen that before.

Hi!
I tried 2nd life but didn't understand anything and how can one play bdsm in second life? Where do i go to find the bdsm environment?

yeah SL can be baffling at first.

From a BDSM point of view it's much the same as any chatroom cyber... a 'sub' character finds a 'dom' character within whatever type of fantasy that want to play it out and basically does as they are told. SL enhances this a bit with the use of animations and interactivity with objects so that you can be 'bound' or 'whipped' or whatever.

You can also voice via SL, so if you want to make it a bit more personal you can do it that way.

Also if you run the Restrained life viewer you can be 'forced' to do things by the Dom... (they can control selected things you avatar can do, so, for instance, can lock you in a cage, or tie you to a chair and gag you, stopping you from moving or speaking clearly)

It's all very clever, and if viewed as a bit of fun pretty harmless IMHO.

As far as finding BDSM in SL... age verify, go to the adult continent, and i challenge you *not* to find it LOL
