This was a lot of fun. The Las Vegas Sun had an article on March 26 about where each county stood in "degree of evil". I'm in the farthest northwest county. It looks like we manage to sin pretty well, just a little less so than Las Vegas! There's U.S. map as well.

One Nation, Seven Sins

The first three paragraphs from the article:

"The question of evil and where it lurks has been largely ignored by the scientific community, which is why a recently released study titled “The Spatial Distribution of the Seven Deadly Sins Within Nevada” is groundbreaking: Never before has a state’s fall from grace been so precisely graphed and plotted."

"Geographers from Kansas State University have used certain statistical measurements to quantify Nevada’s sins and come up with a county-by-county map purporting to show various degrees of lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride in the Silver State. By culling statistics from nationwide databanks of things like sexually transmitted disease infection rates (lust) or killings per capita (wrath), the researchers came up with a sin index. This is a precision party trick — rigorous mapping of ridiculous data."

"Their findings were presented Tuesday at the Association of American Geographers’ annual meeting at the Riviera, where Kansas State geography research associate Thomas Vought fielded questions while standing next to a poster of his research. Seven maps of Nevada, in seven different colors, for seven different sins."

Well, it's been sometime since I was actually in Vegas. But always had a ton of fun, but I do recall a Vegas cabbie telling me that evil lurked at my favorite hangout the Palomino!

No sin in sin city? What's the world coming to?

Hmmmm lets see...currently reside in an area full of Gluttony, Lust, and Pride. Meh, I'll take the lust part :D

We were the white color in all but pride and wrath which were the bright red and envy which was the second red.

Vegas just doesn't consider anything a sin ;)

Nothin' our good ol' boys like better (pride) than settin' around in front of their TeeVees (sloth) eatin' pork rinds (gluttony) watchin' our boys killin' them sumbitch terrorists (wrath) with their bitchin' M-16s (envy) to make the world safe for capitalism (greed).

Hoo boy - gives 'em a hard-on (lust).

Do we win! :D

Pretty amusing stuff. Although, wouldn't STD infection more accurately depict a lack of condom usage than lust (a lot of the red areas are low education areas)? Gluttony went with Fast Food restraunts per capita rather than obesity rates.

Perhaps most interestingly is that higher population density often leads to higher rates of "sin". Probably since there's just more opportunity nearby to steal, get in fights, or get infected with an STD.
