I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy performed tomorrow.
This is a routine thing, done every three years, because of my age and because I had colon cancer eleven years ago. This will be the fifth time to have it done for me, and it's no a fun thing.
The worst part is the preparation. Because my colon has to be clear, the day before the procedure, which will be this afternoon, I have to drink a gallon of laxative. I will basically spend all this PM sitting on the toilet.
The actuall process is inserting a wire with a miniature video camera in my ass and taping the inside of my colon to look for tumors or polyps, which are potential tumors. Polyps are removed right away. Actual tumors will be removed either right away or as soon as possible in a bowel resection operation. Hopefully, that won't be necessary.
