I'm not sure if there is already a thread about fetish clothing (I'm sure there is), but does anyone find most fetish clothing a little bit tacky? Also, I might be going to my first party and there's no dress code, but I'm still not sure what to wear. Any website recommendations?

I hate fetish wear. With a passion.

There are ways around it. Most parties if there is not dress code that means there is not a dress code and you can wear whatever you want. If you feel out of place going wearing whatever you would normally wear (even though its likely that you wouldn't be the only one), wear a lot of black. If there is a chance you might be stripping down to your unmentionables, wear some sexy underwear. Also, usually if you look unique in some way, if its obvious that you have your own style, you can get away with not looking exactly "fetish."

I've always found that while yes, a lot of parties have dress codes for a reason (to keep out tourists, etc), the ones that do end up being a bit restrictive. How many people would like to go but don't have clothing that fits the dress code or who can't afford fetish clothing (it aint cheap!). I hate fetish clothing and I hate feeling pressured to wear it. Fuck that. I want to feel like I look good.

I trust that you don't doubt this, right?

That's not a yes or no question for me.

I dress in a very specific way, and I do my hair in a very specific way, and I do my makeup in a very specific way. All of these things together make me feel like I look as near to perfect (perfect in this usage meaning 'I look how I want to look') as possible. When everything is just right, I feel like I look good. When everything is not just right, when my hair isn't done, when my makeup isn't suitably outrageous, I don't feel like I look good. Whether I actually do or not has nothing to do with it. When I feel like my hair isn't looking its greatest, or I'm wearing something that I don't like, or my makeup isn't at its best, my self esteem goes down a little. When my hair isn't done, when I don't have makeup on, when I'm wearing something awful like PJs or, *shudder*, pants, my self esteem does a nose dive. When I think I look great, I feel great.

I've noticed that my self esteem and confidence is intrinsically linked with how perfect my hair looks, and so am willing to get up much earlier in the morning then most people would think is necessary in order to make it look as close to perfect as possible.

I've actually had arguments with people about this. People have told me that its unhealthy for me to only feel like I look good when I look this artificial, that I've bought into all the barbie self-hating what-have-you, and maybe I have, but I've also found what makes me feel beautiful, and what makes me feel good, so who cares if its artificial?

/end narcissistic rant

99% of fetish clothing is no sexy at all. Thats my opinion.

And then you got the whole, this is so ridiculous its funny factor.

With all that rubber, I wonder if they squeak when having sex? Like ballons rubbing together or something.

My guess is if you wear something sexy it would it will be more appreciated, except maybe by those that actually have a fetish for fetish clothing.

'Twas not a rant, Syd, but a good explanation. I get where you're coming from.

I have absolutely zero interest in so-called "fetish wear" as well. Further, I generally never dress in all black because I don't like the color and I don't like how I look when wearing all black. You might find me in black slacks or a black turtleneck from time to time, but there will always be other colors in the mix. Gotta keep the blue eyes sparkling for the ladies, you see. ;)

I also hate black. I'll wear some black AND white (so mod!), or black with other colors, but never all black. I love colors so much! I never want to look that glooooooomy and dark. Also all black is boring, and it's so fun being a bright green or pink or orange spark amidst a sea of black.

So are we never going to see you show up in a bring pink latex version of the Catwoman outfit? ;)

Not a fan of fetish wear. I think on the right person a small ammount mixed in with more normal clothing could be okay, but head to toe latex is too much for me.

I can't stand fetish wear. I hardly own anything black, either.

As my goth friends once stated, I am the "Pink" of goth.

Well, I used to be the pink of goth, but now I dress mostly casual prep.

Anyway, when I used to go to fetish parties, I would usually wear a really nice dress, black-tie-function style. It certainly made me stand out in the sea of shiny latex and Halloween vampire capes. :D

I just love latex and leather.Sometimes stylish tacky just feels right.
I mean you're going to a party not a job interview.

Yes, fetish wear is tacky as fuck.

There. I said it. Sue me. :p

Fat bitches like me have no business wearing clingy latex or leather or what have you. I have a love for black patent leather shoes, but I don't think that really counts as fetish wear.

So for something like that, I'd probably wear a skirt, my favorite pair of shoes (black patent leather Mary Janes with a kitten heel), and a weather-appropriate top (not black). Or if it were really cold or really casual, I'd eschew the skirt altogether.

But I don't really do the party thing, anyway, so I might not be the best person to ask, LOL. Have fun, whatever you wear.

I accept the point, but I really, really don't have the body for leather clothing. Leather pants are only acceptable on people who have the figure for it or glam rockers, and I am neither. Yet.

me personally really like kilts...
they seem though to be equally populare ammong men as women... :)

I have a latex spanking skirt. I don't ever wear it out but I love it. It feels so great next to my skin and makes me feel sexy. I also have a great leather short skirt which I love. I (and my PYL and my husband) love when I dress in costumes. Fetish wear is just like any of my other dress up clothes. It's fun.

Usually, fetish clothing just looks cheap to me, and to mention restrictive. I also suppose it's easier to wear a skirt for showing that bottom? I foresee pants or anything similar creating awkward situations. Gosh, I love stressing about clothes and looking hot because I don't get to do it very often...

In defense of fetish wear, I enjoy it, it doesn't have to be tacky, but it's often done poorly. I still enjoy it at my heavier weights.

I also love the bizzare latex aesthetic and the restrictive and transformative. I like to be covered and layered, and will often corset over leather outerwear or under it, gloves are hot to me. It depends. It's not mandatory nor frequent.

But I generally like to do public SM events in simply slightly dressed up attire, however I'd want to interview or look good without being too restricted. Bondage is usually calvin klein slacks, shoes kicked off, and a nice blouse. I have a vintage dress I've worn a bunch, simple belted black sheer dress with fully fashioned hose and pumps I can walk in.

My top enjoys pin up foundation looking stuff, and I look better in that, so I have a number of girdles and garters.

I like boys in ties and suits, also. But then I have a thing about obscured features (instawetness) so I'll sometimes put a really outlandish hood on H in his good slacks and tie and shirt. Or I'll go for zentai (a full body lycra sheath that covers everything so person is reduced to walking shiny silhouette.)

M and I look either shockingly normal or abnormal when we go to events. I don't care for fetish attire on men unless it's really really intentional, done, and finished - and that can be drag, or rubber, or leather, but it requires commitment to the ensemble and it doesn't work for everyone. My top in the usual uniform of a hetero top dude would be ew ew ew.

I don't care for fetish wear.

Wear something satiney...I'm a sucker. Put her in a business suit....I'm done for.

I like fetish wear, it's fun and has it's place. I'm sort of suprised by all the negitive comments about it. I've got no problem wearing a suit to a formal affair, bathing suit to a pool party or a bit of latex to a fetish club.

KILTS! KILTS! KILTS! I LOVE KILTS! *does a squeally little happy dance*

I started making "Celtic costumes" for the sole pourpose of getting more men in kilts

I've been called "glitter goth". I love black and deep purples, but I have to have something "shiny" attached to me. Usually in the form of glitter over dark makeup.

I love leather, but that's because of my own passion for the smell and feel of it. But I don't own any. Maybe once I get to the size I want and am there for a stedy period. *shrug*

I'm allergic to most latex, and I just don't understand the rubber, so most fetich wear is out for me.

I think someone once told me that the sexy part of fetish clothing is how you feel when you wear it.
