One Step Forward....Several Steps Back

There's a book called Everything Jesus Ever Said About Homosexuality.

It's blank.

Its purpose is to make the point that a lot of OT laws were superseded by the coming of Jesus. Christians eat ham -- for Easter, even -- when the OT very clearly says that this is not allowed. If you ask them why, they say that most of the OT laws are only for Jews, and Jesus' coming made a new set of laws.

The "rule" about homosexuality is in the same part of the Bible as the "rules" against wearing clothing of mixed fibers and eating shellfish.

In other words, if you've ever worn a poly-cotton blend, you've committed a sin that's just as big as homosexuality.

I'm aware of all that. There are many restictions in the OT that are just plain stupid, such as those you mention. At the time, they might have made sense. However, there are those who say there is nothing in the Bible at all, and I like to point that out. Personally, I have broken all the commandments, except murder, and I will continue to break them as I see fit.

I don't know yet. There's a brand new-elected DA, though, might have mentioned something...

(ETA) might not be possible, in fact. but this is only the first day I've really looked into it.

Church money came into California from other states. This is a federal battle, and I would definitely support it. Google first. Don't want to reinvent the wheel if you can make an existing cart go faster.

ETA:

In IRC 501(c)(3), lobbying is described as "carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting, to influence legislation," while political activity is described as "participat[ing] in, or interven[ing] in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office." In short, IRC 501(c)(3) organizations may take sides with respect to political issues, but not political candidates. Since candidates commonly array themselves on opposite sides of issues, there are obvious difficulties at times in distinguishing between actions that support an issue but not a particular candidate.

STELLA dear,

You cant get people to support gay marriage, how do you expect to prevail over churches? You always over-reach and fail.

There are objections in the OT about homosexuality, such as the stories about Sodom and Gommorah. At the same time, a lot might have been lost in tanslation. That was not intended to be a pun.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure everything in the OT is specifically against male homosexuality.

Do not lay with a man as you would with a woman, right?

I mean, if you really think about it, it's almost pro lesbian.

:D

Slice it however you want, but most people believe gays are weird. I cant name one culture or society thats embraced the homosexual lifestyle as equal to male-female sexual bonding. We tolerate you like we tolerate...midgets.

JBJ,

Just because I would rather fuck a black woman than you doesn't mean I'm gay.

It just means I have standards.

SHWENN

Then you agree that homosexuals are like people who eat dirt or clay or hair?

In as much as people who eat dirt or clay or hair aren't hurting anybody, and their choice in food has no bearing on my life or anybody else's life so those people should have the same right marry as any other consenting, adult, law-abiding, tax paying citizen...yes, I do see similarities.

Please, stop feeding the zoo animals. ;)

(Thanks for not quoting him, tho!)

Wow. I just did it today. I had no idea how restful this line would be:

This message is hidden because JAMESBJOHNSON is on your ignore list.

Bliss. :)

Then I guess you and your friends need to convince the majority of Americans that your way is the right path to take.

PEOPLE! Get over it. None of you have me on ignore. Stop the lying.
Well Voluptuary Manque does, but he already freely admitted to be being a Cowardly Bear scared of everything.

I keep trying to see the silver lining....

I was reading a news report today about how the supporters of Prop 8 said that gays and lesbians have the same rights with civil unions.

I'm not a lawyer, but .....didn't the Supreme Court rule a long ass time ago...that seperate is not equal?

So, maybe this is just what was needed to send this to the US Supreme Court.

So, maybe this will actually be the beginning of getting the government sanctioned discrimination in the states wiped out.

So....maybe...the federal DOMA will be determined to be illegal as well.

I still have hope.:)

The supporters of Prop 8 are a bunch of liars. I borrowed this from Anniesjustagirl's post because it documents the differences between the two:

Benefits of Marriage versus Civil Unions

PORTABILITY OF RIGHTS

Married Couples: Union automatically recognized in all 50 states.

Unmarried Couples: Can register as domestic partners in Massachusetts, which allows visitation rights in hospitals or jail, access to the school records of partners' children, and insurance benefits to partners in some cities.

Civil Unions: Usually only recognized in the state that approves them. But recently in New York, a civil union from Vermont was recognized in a wrongful-death suit.

GIFTS AND PROPERTY TRANSFERS

Married Couples: May make unlimited transfers and gifts to each other.

Unmarried Couples: Any gift or transfer worth more than $10,000 in a year requires filing a federal gift tax return.

Civil Unions: Same as unmarried couples, larger gifts and transfers are subject to federal tax.

INCOME TAX STATUS

Married Couples: “Married filing jointly” generally works to the advantage of couples when one earns much more than the other, but creates a penalty when their incomes are similar.

Unmarried Couples: Unmarried couples cannot file jointly, although an adult with custody of a child can file as “head of household.”

Civil Unions: A couple can file only state tax returns jointly, federal returns are filed individually.

CHILD OR SPOUSAL SUPPORT

Married Couples: Criminal penalties are imposed on spouses who abandon a child or a spouse.

Unmarried Couples: Unmarried partners have no legal obligation to support their partner or partner’s children.

Civil Unions: In state where the union is granted, the courts can impose penalties on a partner who abandons a child or a spouse.

MEDICAL DESCISIONS

Married Couples: A spouse or family member may make decisions for an incompetent or disabled person unless contrary written instructions exist.

Unmarried Couples: A health-care proxy, prepared before a problem occurs, can designate anyone, including a partner, to make decisions.

Civil Unions: Partners in the state where the union was granted can make health decisions, but in other states that authority may not be recognized.

IMMIGRATION

Married Couples: US citizens and legal permanent residents can sponsor their spouses and other immediate family members for immigration purposes.

Unmarried Couples: Not allowed to sponsor a partner or other immediate family members.

Civil Unions: Not allowed to sponsor a partner or other immediate family members.

Yep, Sue....it is not equal...but the haters are trying to say it is.

Just like they did in the 50' and 60's when the question was race.

We can't let up on this issue.

We have to keep poking folks in the eye and sayin..."WHY CAN'T YOU SEE?"

well, maybe not pokin them in eye....but....

Good post, Safe Bet (and annie, respectively). I was looking for a bullet list like that.

MISTY

I'll bet you not one black voted against AMENDMENT 2. Thats how much they think of your equal rights. When women wanted the vote at the end of the Civil War, newly minted black citizens opposed it. Dont believe me, check it out.

Since I belong to a religion far more ancient than Christianity, which doesn't condemn adultery, divorce, homosexuality, etc., just truly evil things like murder and other crimes, I am not too worried, either way.

If Jesus wants to punish me, he knows where to find me. Until then, I'll keep praying to Zeus. :D

The Usual Suspects quietly ignore the fact that Obama opposes same sex marriage.

Isn't it, though?? I was just as pleasantly surprised... ahhhhh... :cathappy:

SELENA

I dont post for your benefit or that of the Usual Suspects. I post for thinking people who have the capacity to hold opposing ideas and evaluate them. I mean, you people make ignorance an art, so its congruent for you to use the IGNORE option. You do it all the time, everywhere.

MISMUSED

Your post is entirely scatterbrained.

Christianity isnt monolithic. You will find whatever you seek if your search is diligent and thorough. Anyone can open a stall at the Christian Fair.

But what mystifies me is how the Usual Suspects obsess about and cling to Christianity as your reference point. Consequently, your pathetic lives seem antithetical.
