Shame and Humiliation

first sentence - harmless, baby - or maybe the bimbo is nothing? I don't find contempt healthy when directed at me.

second sentence - I don't understand it, but maybe it is a reference to part of the thread I have not read?
It's in another thread - which seems to have disappeared.

Healthy contempt: when women used to complain "men!", because they like to sit around drinking beer and watching football on Sunday - or men, when they laugh about how women all go to the bathroom together, i.e., you basic quotidian bitching, almost teasing, without any particularly deep hostility or rancor.

I'm not sure why the whole bimbo thing is hanging on me, I don't believe Ive ever actually called a woman bimbo in my life, but as I say, I have heard it used affectionately, and to really sort all this out we'd have to sort out what the levels of contempt are, ranging from detached ennui, to cattiness, to jaundice, to scorn, to loathing, to abhorrence, malevolence and malice.

I remember the word being used as a kind of endearment, kind of like you'd call a girl a fox or a babe. (Or are these words anathema too these days?) That was back maybe in the 60's or 70's. My understanding was it was a contraction of the Italian "bambino" or "baby".

Come on Doc! Please don't be a cretin and say that "Bimbo" has EVER been a term of endearment. You are WAY too smart to think that! Are you honestly going to tell me that you BELIEVE that ANY women wants to be called a Bimbo? That they would smile and think kindly of you? That it is a complement? Really?

1. Slang A woman regarded as vacuous or as having an exaggerated interest in her sexual appeal.

Fact is, I consider this one baked, it means whatever you think it means - "bitch" and "slut" can also be terms of affection, a lot depends on where you are and who you're talking to, i.e., public vs private for one.

And I find it odd that you can use the N word and not imagine it's going to offend someone, I don't care how delightfully fresh and postmod cosmo you are, again, what will seem refreshingly irreverent in one situation will get you viciously beaten in another.

Maybe, if she's a bimbo.

Obviously, you didn't catch the phrase "Without offense" in my comment.

Somehow-- I don't find that odd at all.

I don't think I ever said it wasn't offensive, merely that there is an undercurrent here eludes a superficial analysis - you agree that Marylin Monroe typifies the Bimbo archetype, but have you ever met anyone who openly expressed contempt for her?

I recently watched the Peter Sellars movie, "The Party" with the blonde bombshell, Carol Wayne, who made a career out of being a bimbo in the likeness of Monroe. We all know these women were not stupid, but they played the part. And the best in my opinion was Goldie Hawn. Not a bombshell but a delightful bimbo, said with true affection for her stellar portrayal. Being a Bimbo was not so bad, back in the old days...

Wait-- I thought you were attacking my use of the "n" word. You were implying that I was all carefree and and confident in using it.

Yes, I think that anyone who calls MM a "bimbo" is expressing contempt, it's a term of contempt.

Being an eternal little girl was, indeed a laudable ambition-- especially if you were being written into the stereotype in a movie.
And those characters do not exemplify much, do they-- an object of affection and annoyance. Certainly not a woman who will have to be effective in her life.

As cute as they are, they are not admirable, are they? And if Goldie sudenly shows a flash of intelligence we say; "O ho! She's only been pretending to be a bimbo!"

Which he seems unable to grasp, despite several women telling him that over and over and over....

Stupid is as stupid does.

Sure, Goldie, she saves the day in a lot of stories, a common plot device.

You know, the macho hero tells her to stay put, while he handles it, but she follows him and conks the bad guy out from behind, forcing the hero to do a double take.

I'm not sure I've seen The Party, I'll have to rent it, I love Peter Sellers.

I never really thought of it as anything but a role that women play, one that often border on tongue in cheek, though that slips past some people, it's a very subtle thing.

I suppose the closest analogy might be coquette, which references the concern for personal appearance, and it's certainly less offensive than just plain "stupid" I would imagine.

Anyway, it really isn't part of my working vocabulary, in fact I think the only time I ever use it is when discussing actresses and stereotypical roles, etc.

Dizzbrain, however, is an old standby.

What not all women?

Both of you bimbos can just fuck off.

Chapter 5 of The Descent is all about shame and humiliation.

Actually -- it may be a bit too unsettling -- so far it's getting pretty low votes and I'm not sure if it's trolls or just revulsion at the various disgusting things that happen in that chapter.

The gangs all here - standing in for Recidiva SB? Or is she being summoned as we speak?

Well heck, xssve looks like these women are getting your goat. "Bimbos?" "fuck off?" Not exactly your snappiest retorts there bro!

Granted, I think you might have more of a fight on your hands than you first realized. You see, I'm of the opinion that all of these women not only are due respect, but DEMAND it.

Of course, you can say what you want on the internet and hide behind you anonymity. that's probably a good thing too. I'd guess otherwise they’d be wiring up you broken jaw right about now.

I’m also REAL sure that if any REAL man heard you talking like that he’d offer to help, not they seem to need it, but just out of righteous indignation for you being such a condescending, pompous asshole.

I'm just saying that at one time it wasn't the end of the world to be called a bimbo.

Jesus! You know, you can call me a motherfucking cocksucker nogood shithead kike and I'll let it go! What's the big fucking deal here?

Okay, if it offends you I won't ever ever use the word again! Okay? But at one time it wasn't a fucking nuclear word.

No Doc it's not the end of the world. Don't get all cranked about what I was trying to say. I'm just trying to express that being called a Bimbo is not complementary. With most chicks it's a one way ticket to Slap City. Come on, chill dude!

Never once said it was.
