Chicago Litogether 2008 After Action Report

I did receive a couple of worried PMs from people who thought it was an all-out orgy and they weren't comfortable about it.

I was able to ease their fears, I thought. They did attend. Well, one of them did.

That just got me thinking about my own worries beforehand (you'll recall, I think )...

I have so many fond memories from that weekend, but my very fondest one was the very first night I was there, when I went looking for the party room without knowing anyone, being a complete nervous wreck, and then I came in and was greeted so warmly, and I put on my name sticker, and people read it and got excited about meeting me, and I got excited about meeting them, and I went looking for everyone else's names and matching them, for the first time ever, with faces. And everyone was so very friendly, and open, and understanding from the start. I don't think I've ever walked into a room full of people I'd never met before and felt so damn comfortable and happy to be there.

I'm new here, but my take on the social atmosphere of the AH is that groups of people who know one another usually tease and joke, and since this is an erotica website, the teasing and joking is often about sex and/or relationships. And that's all it is. *shrug* Makes sense to me.

Yep. It's the same way with the more serious conversations. There was a lot of very factual discussion about sex going on, which I loved because it's not something that I usually get the opportunity to openly discuss with people around me. I recall people discussing the art and techniques of cunnilingus, and I was shown some great bondage pictures in the same manner that someone might show his holiday pics.

It's very much like regular socializing, only without this great "taboo" that sex is in regular polite society. I liked being able to let mu guard down and talk and ask about things that I'd usually have to censor myself about.

And you're correct there ... but from past experiences on Litogether threads we say it "out loud" so that lurkers don't get the wrong expectations. As Sarahh said, as the hostess, she received some far-out PM's. As hostess of past Litogethers, I have too.

Flirting/teasing on the threads is one thing, but when talking about meeting in person it's different. No offense meant to anyone, but we keep the "rules and expectations" in black and white so there are no misconceptions.

Exactly! If our hobby is writing erotica we should be doing the best job of it we can. For those of us who live lives of contented vanilla, writing about kink would be difficult if it weren't for our friends who are more familiar with the scene. The novel I'm working on right now would be a hopeless mess if I couldn't rely on Stella to tell me, "No, that's not the way it would go."

Just remember folks, I've had it implied that it is bad manners to take notes. Just memorize as much of what people say as you can and keep in mind that you can always PM them for the details that you forgot.
