I have frequently disagreed with you over simplification of what readers here expect or what types of stories that writers can find success with. And what makes good erotica? I personally believe that it's about good writing. Other writers might argue that it's about engaging characters, or emotional impact, or an exciting plot. Plenty of others probably don't care about any of that, and just want to describe the sexy stuff - and let's face it, the sexy stuff is what draws readers to Lit.
The subject matter of the stories aside, those "newish" authors who venture into the AH or similar groups deserve advice that emphasizes improvement and growth. Make their first one the best that it can be with the knowledge and skills that they have at the time and then get it out into the world. Just don't settle for that.
Of course the 1K stories are intentional. Who posts a story accidentally. What is the motivation behind those intentions? I suspect that it is a combination of the fact that the site allows it, and the quest for instant gratification more than a lack of desire to write longer stories.I think you're wrong in your assumption that their 1k word chapters aren't purely intentional.
Furthermore, only a tiny part of authorship visits the AH. Even if we had the time and ambition to "educate" all those authors, how would we ever reach them? Your idea is practically unfeasable, to say the least.
Edit: If the website were to actually increase the word count limit, I'd be happy to provide guidance here for total amateurs, along with many others, the same as we do with every other issue authors have.
We can only focus on two primary means of educating new writers. We can help those who do wander into the AH forum, and we can do what more and more authors have been doing, which is contributing to the "How-To" category with sage advice targeting the skills required to be most successful on Literotica as an accomplished writer.
