I have a story in the 'Romance' category, two chapters of which have been submitted so far. So far, there hasn't been any sex. There won't be any sex in the next chapter either unless I completely rewrite it (sorry if that's a spoiler to anyone who's been kind enough to read it, LOL). Rewriting remains an option but one I'm not sure I want to take, given the personalities of my characters. It would change the whole dynamic of their relationship and therefore the entire story if I do.

So here's the question. Given that I've posted this in 'Romance' can I get away with it being a slow burn? (I promise they'll get to it eventually :D). I realise I'm posting to an erotica website and sex is kind of expected but I also know that a lot of you don't write sex into every story you write. Do I need to take it out of 'Romance' and put it into 'Novels and Novellas'? But it is romance... The category descriptor for 'Romance' says 'Candlelight, wine, and a soft kiss' after all :)

All opinions, suggestions gratefully received

I think the Romance category is one of the most accepting of "slow burn."

My opinion, for what it is worth, is that in the Romance category sex is not necessarily required, and readers won't punish you for the lack of it. Some of my best stories had no sex, and did quite well in that category.

Honestly, I can't think of anywhere better. I can think of lots of places worse. For example, don't put it in Mature. Been there, done that. Romance is perfect; people are already looking for the story there, and if it's okay with the Literati (I submitted one in Romance that got posted in NonHuman), I'd let it ride.

Romance will be just fine.

Um...which chapter do they get it on in? :D

Thanks for your replies. Okay dokey, I'll leave it where it is. Which is obviously what I wanted to do anyway. :D I daresay at some point I'll get a 'where's the sex?' comment/email but I can live with that. I really didn't want to re-write the thing.

As for what chapter they do get it on in, well... You're just gonna have to wait and see :)

Thanks again, guys.

Evelancy? sorry, I've probably murdered your call name again! Can you post link to these two chapters? To me the slowburn and plot leading to real deeply felt love scenes are my cup of tea! Quesla I'm sorry that I can't vote and give you my ratings on your story by numbers, I'm completely blind and haven't figured out how to get the Rapsody.ex file to sound out the security codes work! I promise to come back to the story feedback forum if you're willing to look for my thread post on them! Love & Light: Quesla

evanslily, IMHO romance is just the place for a story with oodles of plot and slow-burn sex.

The days of closing the bedroom door as the heroine is finally taken have long gone - even in the NYT top lists. However, the intrigue and sexual tension, without graphic display is now part of most popular novels.

Stick with romance, don't worry about the bodily mechanics and weave a tale of erotic mental images that get us wanting things to go further. Teasing is such an effective writing tool.

Hi Quesla.

I've sent you a private message but just in case you can't read that, I'll post the link to the chapters here as well.

Chapter 1 http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=347790
Chapter 2 http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=348780
Chapter 3 http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=349766
Chapter 4 http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=351469

I hope that helps. This story isn't finished yet but I'm working on another of my stories Caught by the Tide right now. I will get back to this story when it's done, I promise.

Thank you so much for showing interest in my story. I hope you enjoy it!

Lily

Thanks Elfin :)

As expected, I have had a couple of 'where's the sex?' comments but I can live with them. :D

My heroine won't be rushed, LOL. They'll get to it--eventually...

Some of the best-selling romances are where they get so close but never get to it. Don't underestimate the literary device of 'prick-teasing'. Suitably wrapped up, us girlies go follow you.

I forget who said it but it should be the motto for all erotic writing, 'Anticipation is better than realization'.

Evanslily,

All I have to say is: Where's the next chapter? :)

LOL, I know. I'm sorry.

I want to finish 'Caught by the Tide' first (there are only a couple of chapters left of that one) and then I'll get back to it, I promise.

I wish I could write faster :( My day job keeps getting in the way, grrrr.

Notice, I purposely didn't say which story and I got the two burning questions answered. ;)

It's very considerate of you to offer up Luke and Becks to us readers, while Matt and Lissy circle each other. Very considerate.

What are you studying, if you don't mind me asking?

Tax accountancy, broadly speaking.

It's fascinating stuff... not :)

No wonder I write romance...
