I'm doing some editing work for someone and this new story refers to a previously published story. Can I insert a link in the new story to make it easier for the reader to view the previous story ... and, if so, how do I do it?
The answer is probably somewhere in the FAQs or How-Tos, but I can't find it.

Good question and I can't find an answer in the FAQs either. You might try it and report back here whether or not it worked. I've linked to other stories but have done so either right in the description slug when it's something like a direct prequel of an already-posted story, or in a parenthetical phrase at the top of the submitted story text. I've never tried giving actual URL links, though, just given the story category and title.

Thanks for your advice, rachlou. I'll try it (though it may still be trial-and-error) and post back here when (if) I can get it to work. May I suggest to the guys who run the forums that they include it somewhere in the how-to's if thats possible.
Ps that's a really nice ass-ett you have there!!!!!!!!! Yummy!

My link was to another of my stories and it wasn't within the story itself - it was in the note at the beginning.

I have read at least two How To's about writing in different Lit categories, that featured hyperlinks within the texts to different stories on Lit.

I can understand that an external link would be unacceptable, but surely a link to another story within Lit isn't outside the rules?

As near as I can determine, links to other pages on Literotica are acceptable. My LST3Ks link to the original story ( where applicable ), submission pages of my fellow riffers, etc.

When I edited Ep. 01 to add Sean's submissions link to the story, I even noted it in the moderator's notes, so it didn't get missed as an oversight. My understanding is that a human always sees those.

That was my understanding too. My submission was read by several moderators before it posted and i'm sure if the link I inserted had been deemed inappropriate, it would have been removed.

On http://www.literotica.com/subguide.shtml it says: 9. No HTML links or web addresses are allowed within stories.
And that is entirely the case in my experience. I've put html links into my stories and the editors invariably remove them.

If internal links are allowed, why were hyperlinks to previous chapters of a chain story barred? In that case the links would be particularly useful, since the "other submissions" link supplied by Lit links to the author of this chapter, and not to the story.

Or is this another case of pot luck on which of the Lit Assessors happens to read a particular submission?

No idea? The only thing I do know is that all three chapters (of MY story) were read by 4 people prior to posting, therefore the link can't have been overlooked.

I agree it's not exactly consistent with your experience!

Internal links are allowed, or at least, they used to be. I have several stories up with a link in the author's note at the beginning. I think the difference lies with a link being in the author's note or in the body of the story.

For example, one of my stories was written as a response to a challenge that someone threw out in the Author's Hangout, and we all linked (in our author's notes) to the thread where the challenge was given: The Fury. The author's note says: This story has been submitted as part of the RAINY DAY STORY CHALLENGE set on the Author Hangout Discussion Forum. All criteria and build up can be viewed through this link: RAINY DAY CHALLENGE THREAD.

Mine were all in something resembling an "Author's Notes" section ( actually my version of the opening host segment from MST3K )

It would have taken a lot to miss my first one. It was submitted as an edit to the first LST3K, which was already posted. I put a note in the moderator section plainly stating that I was adding a link to the original author's work ( the reason for the edit ) I'd say that it was noted during the vetting process, and approved.

Maybe the thing about not linking to previous chain chapters was an old standard, and no longer applies. May be time for a Laurel PM. That could certainly be useful in chain stories. Even better if you can edit a closing note when the next chapter comes out and add a link to the next chapter.

Could it be that Lit. just doesn't want any links to anyplace outside the Lit. Web site?
