Worst Story/Best Story?

We all know there are some pretty bad stories out there. A bunch of "My girlfriend has DD tits" kind of dumb story. I can't name the best one, but I remember in the Lexbian Sex section there was a story that was 30-something pages long and wasn't right to the sex. I read only the first page of it and it was good - I forgot the name.

As for the worst story, usually I say to myself "OK no diolouge, no storyline, I'm not reading this" and stop reading. But speaking from the heart I'd say "One Night in Paris" is the worst, basically it can be described as two jerks tag-teaming Paris Hilton like some tijuana hooker and dumping her out in the street. I didn't read beyond the first two or so paragraphs.

Ignore that paragraph. What would you say the worst/best story on Literotica would be?

I can't tell you what the worst story on Lit is. I recall telling someone over in the Feedback Forum not to give up his day job once because of the misspellings, total lack of punctuation, as well as, zero plot and character development. But there are a lot of those stories out there. Worst is a grab bag.

Best story? I ain't saying. :D

The best and the worst have yet to be written.

;)

(These are completely subjective picks, hmmm? Plus, I doubt anyone here would actually name a story they feel is poorly enough written to earn that dubious title.)

I would have no idea what the worst story might be-- I don't read much, being all too aware of how bad most of it is. There's always something worse coming around the corner if you click...

Likewise I don't know what the best story is either. I know what I've read--and written-- that I think is excellent, but my tastes might make you die of boredom, or maybe hurl, how do I know?

Well what would you say charactarize a horrible story, for all those new writers out there? Here are my perfect qualifications for a crappy story:

  • No plot
  • No diologue
  • No character development
  • The central theme of the story is sex
  • Typical John and Jane Doe characters, IE a guy with an eleven inch penis and some girl with 36DD breasts.

Cliche'd phrasing will get me every time, faster than any other thing.
But really, I expect the central theme of any erotic story to be sex...

Mine!!

I have already written the worst - The Worst Chain Story Ever Ch.01 and then other AH members added their worst as further chapters.

Read and marvel at just how bad we can be. Were we trying to be bad or just letting our cliches run riot?

As I recall, a few years ago, Phillip Jose' Farmer and some others well known authors (five in all as I remember) got together to write the worst novel ever written. Many of the chapters were returned because they were too good and needed to be rewritten. Unfortunately, the novel was quite well received by the readers. :(

This just goes to show, best/worst is a totally subjective evaluation.

Two years ago posters at Absolute Write combined to write the worst possible novel to prove that PublishAmerica would accept anything for publication--and it initially did accept the manuscript. I think, after PA caught on and huffed and puffed about acceptance being a individual's mistake, the novel was published by the combined authors and sold OK.

I remember being led to an incest story here a year or so ago where each and ever commenter threatened to track the author of the story down and kill him. That might have been a candidate for the worst--but I don't remember the title.

Anything that starts off with a "You won't believe this, but it is a totally true story" type beginning is usually setting itself up to be bad.

What she said. :D

Or anything I write.

Well OK at least to me, if I do go back and read it again I sit there and go oh no I should have put this here and that there and I get no enjoyment out of it. So I give it off to snoopy, when he sends it back I take what he did adjust the story to fit and post it.

I hate stories that have some kind of cliche to them too.

I got an idea for a story contest: Who can write the worst fucking story ever!

We already have that. Its call the Last Place contest and Ogg has the copyright on it. Its a very prestigious award around here. Much sought after.;)

Readers may have hated it because of the subject matter, though, and not because it was badly written. Or, was it?

Adding to the list of requirements for a bad story:

1. Impossibly long paragraphs;
2. Ridiculous misspellings (i.e, "he blundered my pussy with his cock.")
3. Characters named 'Suzie Johnson' or 'Rex Bigg,' as examples

;)

You Know Who...

Any story by "He Who Must Not Be Named"....

for fear of massive retribution.

Sin.

See Ogg's post, man. The Worst Chain Story Ever is really hilariously swampfuckingly bad. It must have been a stone blast to write.

cheers

I've seen a few stories with that "The Color Purple" cliche. Also, what I hate, either a narrorator who's closely related to the main character but not related enough to know every detail about what she/he did with someone, and also, some kind of "voice of god" narrorator that seems like a disembodied voice with no actual personification.

I've read several that I could term really good, that only had a 3.9 or so for a rating. I've read several that were in the high 4's that I thought were terrible. I remember someone saying that a story turns him off in the first two paragraphs if it's all background and very little to no dialogue, which means that most of my stories would not be things he could get through, yet a lot of people think my writing's really good. I've seen some say they hate porn with a plot because it detracts from the sex, while others say that they can't read a story without a plot; it does nothing for them either intellectually or sexually.

There was a thread about a year ago that resurrected another thread that was even older (2004, I think), about feedback this guy was looking for on his story. The story had no plot at all and abruptly changed point of view with no warning at all, it wandered, it had poor punctuation, poor grammar...you name it. I'm sure there were people out there who thought it was just brilliant.

For me, personally, I can't name titles because I've read some that are extremely good and would probably all tie for "best" as I see it, and those that would be the "worst" would be the ones where I couldn't make it through the first paragraph.

There are truly 'good' and 'bad' stories on Lit for a wide variety of reasons.

Plot, grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, you name it.

The worst are hideous--reading like Letters to Penthouse or bathroom graffiti.

The best are well crafted and coherent little jewels.

And it doesn't take a refined perception to separate the two. ;)

See I'm biased for the best story. I love it and have it saved because it was written for me off of something that i shared that happened at university. It will always be the best to me.

For the worst, well there are a few that I just couldnt follow past the first page. I sat puzzled as to what the hell happened and then stopped reading. Probably mine could fit in the worst as well. I have no grammar control what so ever. But I still give it a go.
