This one is no joke folks: Hurricane Melissa is a slow moving Cat 5 that is projected to make a direct hit on Jamaica.

It’s so bad that a hurricane hunter plane had to abandon its mission due to the turbulence in the eye wall. And the eye of the hurricane itself has set a record for lack of humidity, which only happens when a hurricane is uniquely powerful.

I expect a repeat of Puerto Rico with Hurricane Maria. Eerily similar situation with the strength of the Hurricanes, the size of the islands, and the populations.

DonOld better get that paper towel throwing arm warmed up…

Considering the Prime Minister is saying that NO structure in the path can withstand a Cat 5, I wonder what options the inhabitants of Jamaica really have???

Do you want to risk getting buried under a large structure like a government shelter, or risk being literally blown away if you stay in a less sturdy shelter like a personal residence???

At a press conference on Monday, Desmond McKenzie, Jamaica's minister of local government and community development, said that of the approximately 800 shelters currently open across the island, only 76 have seen activity.

Great question.
Jamaica is in trouble facing down a force this strong and decisions on how best to preserve life are going to have to be made. I personally would err on the side of judgment and take shelter in a place of recommended shelter for that place will receive assistance quicker than any private home.

Having existed in a higher tax bracket for much of my adult life, I HAVE donated to the national response in crises like this - as well as ponying up additional donations in critical emergencies.

And I will monitor the national response to this crisis and determine what additional action(s) I need to take.



Unfortunately, with EVERY crisis response that DonOld (ANY republican) has "presided" over, there has been the need for MASSIVE additional resources / contributions from private individuals.



I also support increases in taxation on wealthier Americans such as myself, and increased government spending on climate change mitigation and green energy projects that work in unison to reduce the frequency and severity of environmental disasters (basically “anti-DonOld & the MAGAts republicans’ approach to the climate crisis).

As for higher taxes, that's where we differ in opinions.
I prefer to choose where my charitable gifts go.

FYI, our company was hauling generators, equipment and work trucks to aid in the aftermath of the PR hurricane, while the weather was still treacherous enough to wreck some of it on the voyages. Sounds like YOU should go back to school and your keyboard while real men take care of the task at hand.
