The President doesn't take out a mortgage before moving in, and can't sell the place when moving out. As the example I gave you about President Truman shows, previous Presidents recognized that fact and did not make changes without consulting the owners, that is, the people and their elected representatives and the relevant government historical preservation commissions.

Trump doesn't care. Of course he knows he should. That's why, before the demolition, he stated "It won't interfere with the current building. It'll be near it but not touching it." But he can't help himself.
