There was a announcement contemporaneous with the change.I almost posted here about this yesterday but decided to hold off.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I guess they revamped something in the background.

1) is a new problemI noticed quite a few bugs so far:
1) No notice of a new comments
2) Follower added but the count does not change
3) Favorite added but the count does not change
4) If i go to my story, it says it has 1 view but the home page says 1.6k
I am not sure if we can trust the numbers anymore ......
When I'm reading on a touch screen, I sometimes fat finger the unfollow button and then immediately re-hit the follow button. So that might be happening with some of them too.2) has always happened occasionally. The most recent time I tried to track it down, it appeared that the new follower unfollowed me instantly. Maybe it was an mis-click. I have also seeni it takes few hours for the number to change.
I am not saying these are new issues. The site has LOTS of problems right now. And always had some. Let's not exaggerate what is going wrong now.
This is a real problem they are creating now with the whole series of issues. People start looking more critically, expecting to find problems. I think it may take them a while to undo the damage the last 6 weeks or so have done to the site's reputation, which was already not one of great reliability.I am saying that I just noticed them. I did not really pay attention before.
Which makes this week's change more puzzling. The stated reason for change seems like it's much less important than the story processing issues, so why did they do it?This is a real problem they are creating now with the whole series of issues. What problem did this change solve?Sometimes one solves the problem that's easy to solve, not the difficult but more important one.
In his message, Manu talks about slowness. Presumably the giant backlog of announcements was very slow to process. This would increase load and slow response. What problem did this change solve?
Yes....Anyone else getting this. Recent activity seems to have been archived as well as older stuff?

If I go in through the "other" refresh I'm seeing new notifications - stories published four hours ago.New notifications seem to be coming through now.
ETA: at least they are when any activity at all is showing.

Go down to the bottom right of the Control Panel page, scroll to the bottom of the language list, click on "other", then click on the link in the second paragraph. That brings up the latest activity. What's the "other" refresh?

That's hilarious.Go down to the bottom right of the Control Panel page, scroll to the bottom of the language list, click on "other", then click on the link in the second paragraph. That brings up the latest activity.
I suspect it's a glitch within the glitch, but at least it gets back to the latest activity list.
Didn't do anything for me. On investigating, that's because my new Notifications went directly to the Archived feed, including a couple from 4 hours ago.Go down to the bottom right of the Control Panel page, scroll to the bottom of the language list, click on "other", then click on the link in the second paragraph. That brings up the latest activity.

Ithink this happened for two reasons. I do not think the pending hell issue is fundamentally technical. I think the entire process still is overly dependent on Laurel's abilities and for some reason (that I will not speculate on publicly), her productivity dropped for about 6 weeks.Which makes this week's change more puzzling. The stated reason for change seems like it's much less important than the story processing issues, so why did they do it?
