All characters must look dramatically thinner and younger in the second series, as they have gone to Hollywood in the interim and gotten some work done."The BBC SF&F challenge" - BBC as in the broadcasting company. The challenge is to write a SF&F story in no more than six chapters. You can add a follow-up series, but you have to wait at least three years.
The Hanna-Barbarian Challenge: Convert one of the iconic cartoon properties into a grim, Conan-style fantasy piece. Alternatively, take characters from Conan or similar properties and give them a Saturday morning cartoon adventure*.Let's bring some lightheartedness back to the AH to finish the weekend.
New challenges:
"Hanna-Barbera" - Stories in the style of, or inspired by, The Flintstones, Top Cat, Scooby-Doo and Whacky Races.
"Bowdlerised" - Stories that have been conspicuously "cleaned up" to remove all swear words, mature content and sex scenes.
The Michael Bay tribute challenge. Suggested titles:The worst challenge!
And of course, Analgeddon. The Michael Bay tribute challenge. Suggested titles:
- Transgenders - Dark of the Moon
- Bad Boys (change unnecessary)
- The Cock
- Pearl Necklace Harbor
The Rolle-Playing Role-Playing challenge: Pick a famous Rolle and write about someone pretending to be them in order to get laid. The Roll-Playing Game challenge: not roles, but rolls. Your characters have to make Constitution checks, Charisma checks, maybe even Rope Use checks.
@StillStunned,Yes, I know. Nobody is forcing us to take part in the challenges. If the theme doesn't appeal, we can just shrug and move on to something else.
But imagine Lit had a rule that you had to enter at least one challenge each year, and they all sucked. Let's have some ideas for "this is really terrible, but I could see someone actually organising it" challenges. The weirder the better.
(This thread was inspired by listening to Tanita Tikaram's "Twist In My Sobriety" so soon after the "Born to Run" challenge.)
All within Lit's normal publishing rules, of course. And all in the spirit of good fun. I'm OK with someone suggesting a "Day in the life of StillStunned" challenge, but let's not be nasty to other posters, readers, kinks, people with different political views, etc.
Anyway, my suggestion for an awful challenge: "Waiting for Godot but you're not allowed to say 'he said he'd come'".
Anyone else?
I did that one. Way back when I started I wrote a long sib series that was so dark and messed up, it was getting maybe 50 votes a chapter and a half dozen comments...in taboo. But the scores were all in the 4.8's so the few people reading liked it.The Ian Snow challenge. Write something with as low reads and favorites as possible while getting as high a rating as possible. AKA the Home Run in an Empty Stadium Challenge.
That's my entire career. If anything of mine is popular, I promise you, it is 100% an accident and probably an indication the universe has a glitch.I did that one. But if I'd written "My sister's big titties" I'd have had hundreds of votes and comments.
I have some chapters in a Gay Male romance which were rated 5 for a year or two, though by the time they got 10 votes for a red H, they were down to 4.9.The Ian Snow challenge. On a serious note, I wonder whether a Fan Fic challenge would be popular. The Star Whores challenge. Write a story in the Star Whores universe where the Jedi are actually a wild sex cult trying to corrupt the galaxy.
A Lord of the Rings fanfic called "Shagrat by Name, Shagrat by Nature" would probably violate Lit's bestiality rule though. On a serious note, I wonder whether a Fan Fic challenge would be popular.
You might be able to squeeze past the censors if it's a crossover with your Rulk character.A Lord of the Rings fanfic called "Shagrat by Name, Shagrat by Nature" would probably violate Lit's bestiality rule though.
