This Needed To be Said

Hiring on the basis of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion advances people to positions where they are usually unable to perform adequately.
No, it gives qualified people a legitimate chance at getting positions that they are able to perform adequately. (And it is VERY difficult to take ANY argument against DEI seriously when we have a white male president who is barely literate and has the mindset of a six year old, by the way.)

Welp! when a supreme court justice can't define what a woman is? just saying.
That's not really what she said, as you would know if you got your news anywhere except where you do get it. She simply acknowledged that she did not understand the science of gender dysphoria. Neither do you, and you've made a point of keeping it that way.

I have worked with those who owed their jobs to affirmative action. They could not do their jobs, they did not try, they did not care, and we were afraid to talk about it. Affirmative action does not create opportunities. It takes them from those who deserve them and gives them to those who do not deserve them.

Mentioning Trump, who I do not like and who I voted against twice, is a deflection from the problems caused by affirmative action.

You have not. These are people you've literally made up.
I would never accuse someone of lying unless I could prove it. You cannot prove it because I was not lying. If you talk to others who have had experiences they will tell you similar stories.

Lol, talk about rewriting history - Justice Jackson's words are easily available and don't line up with your narrative at all.

Not that your lies are a new thing.

You can't prove it. You made the claim.
I call bullshit.
The only kind of diversity that has any merit is diversity of opinion. Advocates of affirmative action suppress diversity of opinion by suppressing information that different demographics differ in average ability levels and behavior.

You don't need to make up shit to support your position ...FYI.

I think II74 is probably right and you're making this up. But even if you're not, that some women and POC can't do their jobs doesn't prove DEI doesn't work. The same is true of white males: some are good at their jobs, some are disastrously bad at them. But with the latter we never blame it on their race or gender, do we?

No, it absolutely defeats your point. You say Affirmative Action leads to people getting jobs they're not qualified for. Meanwhile, the most important and prestigious job in the USA - if not the world - is held by a guy who is throughly unqualified for the job in dozens of ways, most of which would be comical if they weren't so dangerous - and he didn't get there through Affirmative Action. In fact, he's gotten away with all sorts of things throughout his adult life that he likely would not have if he weren't a rich white man.

As much as I dislike Trump, I think he must be intelligent to get away with what he has gotten away with over the years.

"During her March 2022 confirmation hearing, Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson was asked by Senator Marsha Blackburn to define the word "woman". Jackson responded, "I can't... not in this context. I'm not a biologist".

DEI is dead. It was just another attempt to resurrect 'Affirmative Action', a failed notion that actually ended up doing more harm to those that it purported to help than good. I have no doubt that after this particular mole is whacked back into it's hole it will pop up again in a different guise so where down the road.

This thread is about liberal women.

He is good at certain things, but we both know being president is not one of them. Neither is being CEO of...well, anything. My point is simply that if you were right about DEI, we'd see a lot of what we see with Trump, only with women and POC. Not only do we not see that, but Trump himself is proof that the "meritocracy" people like you call for instead doesn't really exist, or at least doesn't work very well.

Rightguide Syndrome strikes again. Or are you actually aware here that you proved me right?

So what you’re saying is that a woman as educated as Jackson needs a degree in biology to to know what she is. I know you take great pleasure lying to me, but for God sakes don’t lie to yourself.

The meritocracy works more often than not. If it makes you feel better, Barack Obama, who I voted for in 2008 and 2012, would defeat Trump by a considerable margin, if both were allowed to run a third time.

Barack Obama Defeats Trump by Double-Digit Margin in New Hypothetical Poll

Published Jul 31, 2025 at 12:15 PM EDT

Obama received 52 percent support in a head-to-head against Trump, who garnered 41 percent, according to a Daily Mail/J.L. Partners poll of 1,013 registered voters conducted July 9 to July 10. The lead fell well outside of the plus or minus 3.1 percentage point margin of error.

No. What I am saying is that a woman as educated as Jackson is smart enough to know that, while she's an expert at Constitutional law, that doesn't make her equally knowledgeable about biology. She simply acknowledged that she doesn't know what the experts know about gender identity. And the quote you provided proves that.

The meritocracy works more often than not.
If that were true, Trump would have lost both times he went up against a woman whose qualifications dwarfed his. For that matter, the past two (or three if you count Trump twice) Republican presidents never would have happened. But that's really beside the point. The point is that DEI does not promote unqualified people who are the "right" race or gender; it gives traditionally disadvantaged people a fair shot at success like white men already had.
