In a way this is true, and in a way it's not. After WWII when urban communities began to be created, what happened is that rural areas began to shrink and thereby lose their input into community values and direction. As more and more urbanites banded together, the waning input from rural areas became even less as suburban neighborhood turned into urban neighborhood and dependency on corporate largess and social services became more common.

Eventually urban and suburban areas will consume rural areas and another great upheaval in society will occur. How that will manifest is unknown but historically all of the great changes in society have involved plague, destruction, famine, or even all of the above.

What's interesting is that this "great change" can be applied to politics. Eventually the democrat ideology will prevail simply because there are more of them than conservative and that gap is growing. Once society evolves to pure democracy the downfall begins as socialism takes over, then revolution to totalitarianism, de evolution of society to basic fundamentals and minimal population, and the eventual rebellion back to liberty and expansion and advancement of society.

This is a process which has been playing out for millenia and will continue to do so.
