Once Upon A Time: the Dark Fairy Tales Challenge

First draft complete on mine. Now I just have hours upon hours of editing ahead of me.

5,500 words, BDSM themed modern fairy tale. "The deal her Grandparents made" is the working title.

I'm currently at 9500 words. I have the beginning and the ending, most the middle, still working through the sex scene.

The title is The Witches of Eldritch Hollow and will be the Erotic Horror category.

That brings up a question. What is the preferred story length around here? I'm used to writing to a 5000 word target, but my one story that went 10,000 words seems to be doing just fine. I'm new to Literotica, but not new to writing.

The honest answer is, no one knows. There are so many other variables.

Another honest anwer is, stories of all lengths can find an audience here, from 750 words to 300,000 words.

Write your story, write it as long as it needs to be.

I have debated over this for sometime whether to submit as Erotic Horror or Sci-Fi. However due to the sapphic nature of my protagonists I am submitting to Lesbian Sex, although it is steeped in a dark fairy tale it is truly a sapphic romance ... so 🤷‍♀️
I am convinced it will be excellent (as all your stories are), and am looking forward to reading it.

Well, I've finished my dark fairy tale and dear lord is it a dark and unpleasant story. [sigh] I'll let it marinate for about three weeks before polishing it and submitting it for it to be posted by deadline.

I don't know if there is a preferred story length -- and even if there is (which I doubt) I'd suggest you ignore it. Write as thou wilt.

Yeah, mine turned out darker than originally intended as well. Sometimes, the story seems to go where it wants to go and as the writer I'm only along for the ride.

Might be too late for me to get something done in time, but I'm need of something new to wrangle my attention and I dig this idea. I'll see if I can come up with an idea that gets me excited in the next week or two.
