We can have header images now!

Yeah, lol. I don't know why it was blowing up the cropped section. As long as I cropped it outside of the site, it worked fine.
What size did you crop it to outside the site? I initially cropped mine to the size indicated in the site's instructions, and it rejected the cropped image

@Erozetta @NotWise you two might be using the word crop when you mean resizing. Cropping is like taking scissors to a real photo and trimming sections off.

If that's what you both meant, ignore me. I just worried you were talking past each other unintentionally.

I was cutting the image down to a selected area (so essentially cutting off the top and bottom quarter and leaving the center half), not making the entire image smaller. But it was still bigger than the space when I uploaded it.

I don't remember and I don't have my laptop set up right now to check. But it was still bigger than the size of the space because I could move it around still.

My current one is also bigger than the space, I just didn't bother to crop it at all and let it do its thing wherever.

I think we mean the same thing. The Options menu provides a tool for cropping the image to the site's specifications. I don't know why there would be any rescaling in @Erozetta's case, and upscaling a small image would be inconsistent with the behavior I got when the site rejected an image it thought was small by just a few 10s of pixels.

It's also possible that they've changed how that tool works.

By the way, I was having that issue when this option was first implemented a while back. I haven't messed with the tools at all since.

Hey, thx. I didn't know you could do that. Uploaded a header! Wow! Major rogress here on Lit!

I know have a header image even if I have not bothered to put up an avatar yet.

Okay, how do we:

1. Restore the "contact" and "follow" icons..
2. Make the text black so I don't need the overlay.

Or should I ask on the tech forum?

Don't know about turning text black. That may be set on the image upload page.

Your profile page (not your options page) shows me the "follow" and "contact" icons. It shouldn't show you the "follow" icon, but it should show you the "contact" icon.

Thanks! I realize that you are seeing a different version than I am. I never concerned myself with the details of Lit programming, but this event made me notice more of it. Before this, I rarely looked at my own profile.

This is the full original photo I took myself. Hard to believe, but another apartment building was built right next to this one, forever blocking the view and air of all those windows. Before that, for many years there was a gas station on that site.

Wow, I forgot to do a new snapshot. I changed my pic there when I changed my pic here as you have to.

Having updated my header, I'm asking myself, "What's the point?" The images are so darkened as to be indistinct.

This is the one I wanted to use but couldn't get it quite lined up properly. I'm gonna try again tonight. (This is resized to fit the allowable upload size to the forum.)

Also, just so people are aware, the mobile version of your header is narrower than the desktop version, so be mindful to check that your image looks right on both.

People of Smutland! We can have header images now on our profiles! Have you noticed? Maybe this is old news and I just haven’t happened on discussions about this 😁

Check mine out: my profile

This is good news. I recently re-updated my avatar and it seems to be holding. Now, on to find a good header pic.

For a moment I thought everyone else would go “yeah we know, we’ve had this for ages,” but seems I’m not the only clueless one 😄

Haven’t really put much thought or effort into mine, or checked how it shows on what, but mine are pictures I’ve taken myself so at least I have the rights to them.
