I hate jump-scares. Too much adrenalin and nothing valid to let it out on makes me rather grumpy. Slo-burn psych horror can be interesting, however, if there're relatable characters I could empathize with (this might be the heroes, villains, don't much matter to me)

Yes, I can’t pretend that hapless teenagers going skinny dipping by themselves at night where all those murders took place is brilliant writing. Maybe it’s because I grew up with these movies that nostalgia overrides great storytelling. On the other hand, these were incredibly successful movies (most of the ones I like anyway) so they have some value. Hat that value is, I do not know.

I always wonder what it is that’s makes me, and others, love these movies so much. But then, going on a rollercoaster doesn’t fulfill my need for story, it’s just the experience. Why does watching teenagers chopped up create a fun experience? I have no idea, but it does.

My one caveat for these type of movies is that they stay cartoonish. Michael, Freddy and Jason are very fictional characters and that makes it fun. The “torture porn” of the early 2000’s or any serial killer movie makes me sick. I don’t enjoy those at all.

And true crime boggles my mind. That is just depressing.
