Gun violence happens way too often in the USA. I do support being able to own a gun. I don’t agree with calling some guns “assault” weapons. A person can assault another with words, a knife, a bat…. Just ban all automatic weapons and pass registration laws.

Try buying an automatic weapon in whatever state you live in. Unless you’re specialized military or law enforcement with federal authorization, you’re out of luck.

Funny thing, as a professor of constitutional law said to me once, ink was expensive in those days and they didn't throw in random phrases like that to pad out the page. Every word was considered like it is now (unless Trump is signing off on a great pork bill obviously). They didn't have an army as such but they did have units of militia that were controlled by regulations. That was the language of the time.

Training can be given to anyone off the streets and form them into a unit. So anyone who be a member of a militia, so it could apply to all citizens. . If a foreign invader came many “militias “ would spring up suddenly without government regulation but would still have regulation.
So would insurgents not also be well regulated by the definition? Ones insurgent is another’s freedom fighter.
At the end of the day, every citizen should have the ability to possess a firearm if they chose even the ones the uneducated deem “scary”.
