JJ’s mother was of Mexican & Filipino decent and his dad was of European decent .

USA!!! USA!!!

🇺🇸

J.J. made a monster putt to win the tournament in a round that was hampered by seriously bad weather conditions, and he beat out the slimy LIV golfers.

J.J. persevered and won.

USA!!! USA!!!

🇺🇸

Side note:

The kids and the grandkids freaked out a bit when grandpa yelled out from the media room (they don’t really appreciate the game of golf so they weren’t watching) when J.J. sank that monster putt (but they appreciated it quite a bit after I explained the historical significance and the importance of J.J.’s win in the current political climate)

The youngest grandchild even chanted USA!!! USA!!! with grandpa when I started it up at the trophy presentation - well a close approximation of USA!!!! USA!!! - more like “YOU SAY!!! YOU SAY!!!” (I really love that kid ❤️)

This was a very happy & special Father’s Day.

USA!!! USA!!!

I stopped watching pro golf after the whole LIV Bonesaw Tour fiasco. Sucks because I used to be a big Phil fan. Used to follow him for 18 holes at tournaments. But he sold out to the Saudis and their bone saws.

That’s partially what made today so great. A couple guys from LIV were contending right to the end and actually looked like they were going to win - and then J.J. said FUCK THAT!!!

Seeing Tyrrell Hatton from LIV golf flame out at the very end was particularly satisfying (that guy is an idiot on the course)..

Bryson DeChambeau & Phil not even making the cut was also awesome.

Phil sold his soul to the Saudis to help pay his HUGE gambling debts.

Two guys were playing golf. At a point where the course was next to a road, a hearse appeared, followed by a procession of cars. One of the guys took off his hat. The other said, "That's nice of you." The first said, "Well, we were married for 25 years!"

Yep, J.J. certainly persisted / persevered despite all the challenges. And his persistence / perseverance paid off big time - on many levels.

There’s a lesson in that ^ for all of us.

A few years back I got an alumni magazine from my university. There was a story about a guy who lived next door to me in college "living the dream" and becoming the all-time PGA money leader who graduated from my university.

Looked him up on the PGA career winnings page on the PGA website, found he had averaged $15,000 per year in winnings for decades, with exactly ONE golf championship won (some minor Michigan tournament that paid him something like almost a million dollars). So on average he did.....okay. I guess he loves what he does.

Yeah, nowadays the payouts are considerably better.

J.J. just made $4.3 million - not counting all the side-hustle money.

Hell, there might even (should) be a movie made about this.
