Yeah it's gonna take some adjusting too. A lot of pic threads have become link threads which is fair enough I suppose. I just wished there'd been more clarity from the site owners to the mods at least and then passed to us.I think I see what you're talking about. Some links that were embedded, where the image actually appeared in the post, are now just links. Seems to be mainly from tumblr. In another thread that I follow, attached pics that the poster got from the internet are now gone and replaced with a "View Attachment #Whatever" link that takes you to a "Page Not Found" message. But not for all the pics taken from the internet. And I don't recall the ones that are now gone being more nude than ones still there. It's so weird.
To me, one of the many annoying aspects of this is that the change was supposed to be about nudity. But there was no nudity in the cute and funny memes and pics that you were posting. It's like they've just decided that tumblr equals nudity, so anything from tumblr can only be a link. And, as far as I know, they've still never given their definition of nudity to those of us creating original photos. I know it's their site and their money and their decision, but just give us the guidelines so that we can understand and follow them.Yeah it's gonna take some adjusting too. Yeah I have no issue personally with people posting really erotic imagery but I haven't wanted to do that here.To me, one of the many annoying aspects of this is that the change was supposed to be about nudity. If there's no real way to filter NSFW posts from SFW then why make nudity where they draw the line?Yeah I have no issue personally with people posting really erotic imagery but I haven't wanted to do that here.
Yes tumblr does seem to have been targeted which is a shame. I guess there's no real way for them to filter out NSFW posts from other kinds but I wish they had at least considered other ways of hiding the content rather than these fugly links - like blurred pics for example that you need to click on to see.
Well, at least for now, my own content is still there as attachments. Guess time will tell.If there's no real way to filter NSFW posts from SFW then why make nudity where they draw the line?
This seems more of a no images at all policy...

Judging from JaF0's post in 2023 the plan was always to ban all pictures from the site to turn it into a text only site.If there's no real way to filter NSFW posts from SFW then why make nudity where they draw the line?

I don't think I've ever seen you break the rules. You share your own pics. The ones of yourself are arty and tasteful too.Mine isn't
I've obviously broken the rules badly but as seems normal for lit, they won't tell you what you've done.
It can't be the no nudity policy. So they must have changed other shit without any notification to the users

@RosewoodTulip and @Saltfountain, have you both lost the ability to attach images, meaning that you no longer have the “Attach files” button as an option at the bottom left of your reply window? Or are you using the “Insert image” button at the top of the window and, instead of embedding the photo from your link, it’s just pasting the link itself into the message? I think this second situation is happening to almost everyone. It appears that any link from tumblr or giphy is automatically being displayed as a link only. I’m sure it’s happening with images from other sites as well. My past understanding of losing photo posting privileges was that the “Attach files” button was removed from the reply window. Just trying to clarify what is happening to people. But I am familiar with your posts and SaltFountain’s and I’m shocked to see you two lose the ability to attach images.
I have that option still but I've never actually used it. I've only ever shared my own stuff from something like imgbb or linked from a different site.@RosewoodTulip and @Saltfountain, have you both lost the ability to attach images, meaning that you no longer have the “Attach files” button as an option at the bottom left of your reply window? I’ve always liked the attach feature for my own pics. I like being able to post just a thumbnail that people can click if they want to see the full photo. I also like it because only registered users can see attachments. I know that’s not a high bar, but it at least weeds out the laziest pervs.I have that option still but I've never actually used it. Yes so with say giphy I've posted from there through the link option and tumblr pic links are/were through the one next to it.
I haven't tried posting anything since these new changes came about but I might have a little trial soon just to see what I can still share, if anything
This is helpful honestly.I’ve always liked the attach feature for my own pics. I like being able to post just a thumbnail that people can click if they want to see the full photo. I don’t want to completely highjack your thread, so feel free to tell me when to shut it about image posting.
And I do think they are stricter about the rules with photos that are attached, since they are uploaded to their server. Not sure if that happens when an image link is embedded. So when attaching an image, definitely avoid nudity. I also wouldn’t attach photos that you haven’t taken yourself because of the copyright issues. I’m not sure how they feel about non-photo images like the one you just shared. This is helpful honestly.
Tbh this is just how I was taught to do it. Linking my own pics and sharing them from other sites. I honestly don't have a clue.
So if I can still share my nonsense then that's good but honestly I'm still half expecting everything to shut down.
I'm having a break - possibly forever - from posting myself on Lit.And I do think they are stricter about the rules with photos that are attached, since they are uploaded to their server. I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually decide that even a poster’s original (non-nude) images have to be linked.
I think I briefly had a pinterest onceI've posted a few images attached/included in the post, as opposed to linked content, but 95% of it would be to make a point, often humorous. I'm not too fussed either way tbh, though unsized images that swamp the page are a pia.
Until recently I had a pinterest account, but they started whingeing and removing posts, but without telling what they'd removed, so I couldn't figure where the problem was. In the end I got so tired of the hand-slapping and vague threats that I moved all the images to Tumblr. Fuck em.
Meh... I often get follows from people pushing porn sites and I always report/block them. Seriously if I wanted to look at zeppelin boobs or a sweaty minge, I would ask.I think I briefly had a pinterest once
It seems the puritanical, shaming attitude of certain influential factors is really gonna make this whole thing a massive headache across many sites.
And as much as I like tumblr their NSFW settings are an absolute pain to get around too. Even images that are perfectly acceptable are being blurred with a caution.
Its political correctness gone mad I tell ya!![]()
