Sex & Shenanigans

I've come around to appreciate Tom Cruise's movie The Firm. When I first saw it in the theater, it was a very literate crowd. It seemed from all the loud groans that the entire audience hated the film. But that was because we'd all read the book. About a decade later, the movie was on television, and I tried really hard to watch it without my preconceptions from the book getting in the way.

If you just went to see Tom Cruise playing a young, hotshot lawyer going up against the mob and the US government at the same time, it was actually pretty good. It's not the book, but movies pretty much never live up to the book.

Ok here’s a game … tell me something you like that is traditionally disliked.

Some kind of food.. a show.. a song.. a movie..

Whatever.

But don’t just tell me … convince me WHY I should like it too.

Make a case for it.
Unpopular opinion... hotdogs are delicious! They are the perfect food! Hear me out...

You can grill them, steam them, dip them in cornmeal batter and fry them! You can put mustard... ketchup if you are feeling like a kid again, relish, sauerkraut, onions, coleslaw, chili, cheese pickles... the possibilities are endless!

And in a bun it is so convenient! You can hold it in your hand and walk around doing stuff with the other hand! Or, controversial opinion... hold one in each hand!!

There's just something about a woman who can handle a foot-long hotdog that does things for me. 🥵

You'd want @LupineOne to cook up that steak. It's not like I'm incompetent, but "a good man's gotta know his limitations." If it's a Shenanigang party, I think he's demonstrated he'd be the grill master & chef of choice.
I’m an amateur on the grill.
Now, you want the chef part of that, I can do a 14 pound prime rib roast, give the outside a wonderful sear, and carve it like a steak.
And if you want a little wood smoke flavor in there (none of that “liquid smoke” shit either) I can do that too.

When I turned 18 I thought, this is it, I'm no longer a child. I'm an adult! And now I will do adult things!
When I turned 20 I thought, this is it, I've put this whole adulting thing on pause, but now! Now I'll do adult things.
When I turned 25, my tune didn't change. Nor did my mind. Or my life.

But then I turned 30, and I thought to myself, this is it, I'm no longer striving to be an adult. I'm just me. And that's fine.

The party was good, nothing extraordinary happened, just fun with my nearest and dearest, but I so vividly remember that realization that, fuck it, I don't need to strive for some childish ideal of adulthood.

I'll just do as I've always done. 💕

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

Probably very niche, but I always liked Communion wafers at church. They have a nice texture, I was always starving by the time we got to them, and it meant the end of mass and time for breakfast!

Not Catholic, so I have never been allowed to have wafers, even when attending Mass (I like it when they perform it in Latin).
