Or Spotify.!

Here is a Spotify playlist with every song in order.

1,871 songs between 1975 and 2024.

which is missing the point... this show means nothing to me, it was not shown here. I could google, or use spot (which i don't as i prefer to support musical artists), but to have seen the performance live would actually mean something. Looking at a list and choosing one is emotionless and music is all emotion.

Saying nothing is always a possibility. If the category was Top of the Pops or Eurovision, I’d either google and find something I liked or I’d just not participate without announcing it. World’s gonna keep on turning without my contribution. Just saying.

I didn't mean anything by my comment, I wasn't trying to sound like "eugh, amerocentrism" and I'm very sorry if it came off that way 😭

Me and @UnquietDreams were chatting yesterday about what prompts he'd use, and how he'd been shot down by @morelikeasong on the more... obscure ones. I just wanted to poke fun at him because I could find a song which referenced a Shakespeare play that wasn't Hamlet or R&J, but I couldn't really pick something from SNL.

Please let's just carry on carrying on and enjoy some nice live music 🙏

And I wasn't being catty. 50 years is a lot of music, and I was just supplying a resource.

Not missing the point as giving a resource to anyone who wants to use it

No blood, no foul. Not every prompt will touch everyone. When it is outside my wheelhouse, I dig in, which is why I love this thread so much -- it pushes me. But not everyone swims that same stream.

It was my first prompt attempt, so I apologize it missed. I will keep your feedback in mind.

FTR… I didn’t shoot down any prompts. I did laugh at them. And I did shoot down a request for absolute power 🤣

Also, FTR, I was annoyed and being catty 🤷‍♀️. But thank you for clarifying 💛

No probs. The big thing about a LIVE music show is the impact that can change your life. I saw bands on Whistle Test that blew me away as it was a live performance and, often, a new band that may well be making their TV debut. I can imagine SNL doing the same and those things stay with you forever - viewed later (and with the added age factor on all sides) the impact is not as meaningful (for me, anyway).

And also FTR, I never said you shot any down, I said I threatened you with them. Big difference.

Not everyone can come up with a song quoting Chaucer? And I thought requiring references was a good idea...

Day 10: So, for their fiftieth anniversary, pick a song you like that was played on Saturday Night Live

I haven't really watched SNL very often since Colin and Michael took over Weekend Update, they're fine I guess, but they're no Tina and Amy. Maybe the cast is as good as ever and I'm just old but it doesn't hit the same. The musical performances however, I'll still watch those!

Did I just pick this song (music video version) two days ago? Yes. But Lady Gaga only just performed it on SNL this week so now I get to pick it again 😁 I'm simply so fucking happy to see her back in peak form, absolutely serving. And if I'm being a lit bit chaotic, I'm ok with that. At least I bested my first instinct 😂

Lady Gaga - Abracadabra

Was bummed there was no mention of the Replacements SNL performance for 50th Anniversary. They were so drunk and out of control. Yelling ‘fucker’ on live TV. Trashed dressing room. Even switched into each other’s clothes for second song. All of this led to them being banned from SNL by Lorne Michaels.

Bastards Of Young - the Replacements

Which SNL really should have figured on. I love the Replacements, but they went on stage drunk way more than half the time, and they were either amazing or a dumpster fire. (I was at a show at the Starry Night in Portland in 87 or 88 that was so bad, they not only wrote an apology song, they etched “Portland. We’re sorry.” into the original vinyl pressing of Don’t Tell A Soul). Say what you will, the show took chances. Like when Captain Beefheart played and no one clapped afterwards, and some guy yelled "it's shit," causing the installation of the "Applause" sign. Or, my personal favorite, having billionaire Republican Presidential candidate and all-around fuddy-duddy Steve Forbes host and inviting Rage Against The Machine as the musical guest. This led to the band being thrown out of the building by Secret Service agents after an incident involving a balled up American flag used as a missile.

Having a bit of a hard time because I think SNL has done a proprietary scrub of a lot of their stuff off YouTube. Also @SalaciousMonkey22 took my pick.

Tried linking a fb video but that’s showing as unavailable too so just look it up if you want 😝
Will Ferrell came out with a cowbell during this performance.

Queens of The Stone Age - Little Sister (More Cowbell Version)

I did say "play a song," not necessarily the live version from SNL, for the record.

I'm trying not to be too bad at this...

Day 10: So, for their fiftieth anniversary, pick a song you like that was played on Saturday Night Live.

I remember watching this episode, sleeping over at a friend's house. I was young enough that a lot of the show went over my head -- I remember that there was an announcement in each show that all guests of SNL stayed at the Essex House, and I assumed, as there was "sex" in the word, that this was some joke I wasn't old enough to understand. When Bowie came out, I assumed the two background singers in dresses was supposed to be a comedy bit that I also didn't get-- it was quite a while later before I came to understand the magic of Joey Arias and Klaus Nomi, two extraordinarily talented vocalists and artists in their own rite. Nomi's countertenor was especially effective on this song. And Bowie...Bowie was just mesmerizing, with his theatricality and stage presence, even while performing in that prop suit that limited his movements. There will never be his like again. Nirvana did a fantastic cover, but this is Bowie's song through and through.

"The Man who Sold the World," David Bowie (December 15th, 1979.)
I can't not show this...

I was a little tempted to search for “Lady Gaga SNL 2013 with R Kelly.” Thank goodness for better angels.

Day 10 - SNL

It was hard to choose because SNL has had a lot of musical acts over 50 years and many have played songs I like. So I tried thinking of performances that I think rank as the best they've had, still tough and it came down to one sometime has posted, another that I hope someone posts, and this one.

I can't think of more than maybe a very small handful that I think are better SNL performances, really.

Day 10: A song that you like that was played on Saturday Night Live
I'm going to use my second song pass today to pick one performance I really like and one I really respect.
The one I really like, that I'll bop around and badly sing along in the car to:
"Rock Lobster" - The B-52's (this is not the SNL version, which I couldn't find on YouTube - not that I spent a whole lot of energy on it)

The one I respect that is much less of a bop, but a much more important moment in music history:
"War" - Sinead O'Connor
