Oz does not fear much from Trump tariffs on us because the USA has a large trade surplus with us and our average tariff on stuff from the US is 2%. However, Trump's tariffs on China will damage us because it will reduce demand for raw materials exported from Oz to China. We are in the unusual position of having a large trade surplus with China.

Canada currently produces about 87% of the Potash used to fertilize crops in the USA. Canadian mines are the only major producers. There is a World wide shortage of Potash so if the USA puts on a 25% tariff, the major producer (BHP) has announced that it can find alternative markets, especially in Europe for 50%+ of production. Any drop in fertilizer use because of price will lead to a shortage of farm product and consequent price increases for housewives. There is bound to be some increase in prices to American Farmers and American Housewives because BHP can make that happen by diverting potash deliveries elsewhere. All brought about by moronic and macho trade policy within the Trump administration

In the first Trump regime, tariffs on China were focused like a laser on 'non-consumer' goods, Trump did not want Wal-mart shoppers to see price increases on stuff they bought. Had to protect Trump's re-election chances, y'know/

"We're ripping up Ontario’s contract with Starlink,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a press conference on Tuesday.

The Canadian province paused the contract cancellation after Trump agreed to postpone his tariffs for 30 days. But with the US imposing tariffs on Canada (and Mexico) today, Ford decided to terminate the deal, telling the public: "It’s done, it’s gone."

“We won’t award contracts to people who enable and encourage economic attacks on our province and our country,” the Premier said, alluding to SpaceX CEO and Trump ally Elon Musk.

Unfortunately, the losses won't be that big a drop in the musk ocean and some rural Canadians will not get the internet they need. Hopefully there's another plan in place to get it to them.

SpaceX will lose about $100 million CAD (US$68.9 million) from the deal, which was first announced in November. However, it also means that 15,000 underserved homes and businesses in rural and remote communities will not get subsidized satellite internet access.

There is another company Xplornet, which like Starlink, uses satellites. I had it before switching to Starlink. We are in the process of switching back.
