The Ukrainian constitution does not allow elections in wartime. And if there were an election, Zelensky could not be replaced by a candidate who wanted to settle the war Trump's and Putin's way. Only a real warhawk would have a chance.

Putin is a dictator.

The Ukranian Parliament has maintained martial law since the invasion. A fifth of the country is under occupation by hostile forces. A large majority of the country is fighting against invaders.

In accordance with the Ukranian Constitution, an election will not be held until the Ukranian Parliament withdraws martial law. The next renewal is scheduled for May 2025.

This is the only reason any of this is happening. If Russia had a president reasonable enough to accept his country's reduced status, there would be no war. Russia has no reason to fear a situation in which all the countries on its western border are NATO members.

Hind sight and all that. Everyone not Putin was avoiding WW3 while incrementally supporting Ukraine. How much and when can now be argued, but at the time it was a tightrope.

He is so unerringly a transactional shark he smells blood in the Ukrainian water and pushed for an exceedingly unfair proposal giving Zelensky an hour to sign. Then he holds peace negotiations without including Ukraine, like authoritarian strongmen divvying up the spoils.

No, that’s trump lies. Zelensky’s numbers are fine and by Ukrainian law elections can’t be held during wartime. Trump is selling lies as usual.
