He is not a transformative figure like FDR, or even like Obama. Trump's election constitutes no paradigm-breaker, no game-changer, no new party system in American politics. He will leave no important traces when he passes, and his RW populist-nationalist movement will revert to the same ridiculous-crank status the Tea Party held before him.

He takes office with a divided party that barely controls Congress and approval ratings in the basement. He can break a lot of stuff over the next few months, but he won't be able to pass any legislation.

And yet ... he seems pretty important. After all, if he wasn't important, nobody would be talking about him.

He's the president. Not all presidents are equally important. Ford was not important, but if the Lit PB had existed during his administration, there would have been Ford-related threads every day.

But we're not talking about Ford. We're talking about a guy that has threads made about him. Every. Damn. Day. Seems pretty important.

The same would have been true of Ford -- but he could safely be left out of any comprehensive survey of 20th-Century presidents..

More than I would have about Ford. Fewer than I would have about FDR.
And yet ... Trump Trump Trump. I await the threads you will create about Ford. And FDR, Because it seems you don't actually care about them unless it pertains to how much you very much care about Trump. Still seems pretty important.

President of the United States is the most important person on earth. No matter who. :)

Because a lot of idiotic MAGAts seem to think he's that important -- see threads linked in post #5.
What I'm seeing is you constantly referring to him as though ... he's important. If something isn't important, nobody talks about it. Here we are, STILL talking about something that is apparently not important.

/thread. (?)

Of course -- at least, any time after FDR. But not all presidents are equally important. FDR was a transformative figure -- he changed the lineup of American politics for decades after him -- he ushered in a new party system. Trump won't do any of that.
Donald Trump may destroy the Republican Party. It's hard to see how they come back from this.

Of course he is important. He is the president. He's just not as important as is assumed by the starters of the threads linked in post #5.
