During two-and-a-half hours of questioning (and opining) by senators, McMahon attempted to thread the needle between Trump’s plans to gut the 45-year-old US Department of Education and federal laws and constitutional guardrails that stand in his (and Elon Musk’s) way. Even as she expressed support for key Trump policies—including private-school voucher programs and bans on trans girls and women from sports—McMahon’s scant experience in education was on display as she misstated, or failed to answer key questions about, federal education law.
Mcahon, who was head of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, is best known for her role at World Wrestling Entertainment, which she co-founded and ran with her now-estranged husband, Vince. Her experience in education is limited: She earned a teaching certificate in college and was a student teacher for a semester. She served for a year on the Connecticut Board of Education, resigning in 2010 after the Hartford Courant found that she’d claimed an education degree she never obtained. She has spent more than a decade as a trustee of a private Catholic university. She also ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate in 2010 and 2012.
As board chair of the ultra-conservative American First Policy Institute, McMahon now oversees a think tank that supports education-related policies including universal school-choice programs, parental review of all school curriculum, and removal of so-called “gender ideology” and “political activism” from coursework. If confirmed, she says she will boost support for technical schools and vocational programs and ban the teaching of critical race theory—all while emphasizing that education policy is best left to states and local school districts.

Well, the entire education system is full of waste and bloat.....much of the administration is "make work" for lefties. Cut it to the bone, and then pare the bone away,
No more student loans for anything except work-related qualifications. Anything else is a hobby and people should do it n their own dime. And if they can't, they should get a job.
We need to eliminate the expectation that everyone needs a degree. Most of them aren't worth the paper they're written on anyhow. Kids get faked into taking useless degrees, end up with debt they can never hope to pay of after completing a 4 year course in the gendered-history of Sumerian Basket-Weaving, which leaves them unqualified to even work as a barista, and saddle the rest of us with another whining woketard.
Nope. Cancel most student loan eligibility, take existing student loans and xfer the debt to the universities that issued the degrees responsible for paying them off, and if it bankrupts a few of them, good riddance, they were obviously just fake degree mills, and as for foreign students, as soon as they finish, home they go.....no more stealing jobs from Americans and you can fuck off now.

Allah forbid anyone know what a calloused palm is from first-hand experience.
Includes IT professionals, maintenance, cleaners, legal departments etc.
150 employees have Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in their role requirements. But we don't want to look after the needs of disabled students. Get rid of those wasteful wheelchair ramps, let them climb steps or GTFO.

Every state has a Department of Education, they can manage their educational requirements and standards. Agree, no more federals loans. Feds charge a higher interest than banks. Let educational allotments go directly to the student *K- 12*. I would agree that the feds could play a role in enforcing educational standards, but why would we expect the feds to now start doing their job. DoE is subservient to the teachers union which was exposed during the COVID pandemic.

The same steps could be done in reverse, by folding it back into HHS to make the original Health Education and Welfare, but with a different name. Pubs can't vote for Welfare now.

You don't know what you're talking about. DoE is another redundant bloated bureaucracy.
Don't need a bureaucracy to manage loans. imho the education dep or feds shouldn't be in the loan business.
Enforce civil rights? We have local, state and a justice department to enforce civil rights. Men competing in women's sports.
Recommend education reform? Do you mean recommending puberty blockers for kids, inappropriate reading material, DEI, CRT. Since they've been overseeing K-12 standards have been dropping.
We've dropped from *1st through 3* in academics among industrial nations to among the last. Let funding be distributed directly to students and let competition reign within the education system and grant freedom for school choice. Just some thoughts. My girls went to parochial school and did extremely well the problem for me was, it was unfair for me to pay for parochial school tuition and pay taxes for public schools. If the feds are responsible for educating our children then parochial and charter schools fall under those parameters, they help achieve the mission. Again take the funding out of the Dep o Education and distribute directly to parents.
