Sex & Shenanigans

Bets first date I've ever been on was at Svartklubben (the Black Club) in Stockholm. As the name implies, it's a black-out restaurant where you dine in complete and total darkness. Cutlery was dropped, a plate was smashed, drinks were spilled and so, so much laughter was shared.

No walk-ins, only bookings - if you have any allergies or such then you have to state it in advance, because the menu is pre-set and secret. You won't know what you're eating until the fork meets your lips.

An incredible experience 🥰

Obviously. And that's interesting to me because I've lived all over the US and the food has always been predictable. I've had really shitty service, but not food (for what it is).
Same with me and Chipotle. In the last couple decades or so, most reports I’ve seen of food-borne illnesses are from Chipotle, but I can’t recall ever personally getting sick there 🤷🏻‍♀️ There have been a few times when I thought “why risk it” and went somewhere else though

Did they have wings of gold?

Aaaaaaaand I’m out for another week. See ya folks.
Noooooo! It’s not S&S without your postwhoring 🥺

None of those are in first date range imo.
But then again, I did start my dating life in the Midwest. A million years ago.

Take me somewhere that is locally owned and there is only one of them.
It doesn't have to be fancy. It doesn't have to have table clothes. And if it's pretentious- no thanks.

A solid micro- pub or all day diner would be a far better first date option in my opinion than any of those.

Also, imo... a first date is probably something like going for coffee and not a sit down restaurant meal in the modern era. I don't want to be committed to a whole meal with someone until I'm sure I can enjoy the time it takes to drink a coffee. Start with a low bar. lol

Amen. Even 20+ years ago when I asked my now wife out, it was for drinks. Which then led to dinner. But I already knew to make short first just in case the girl was crazy.

It was also a small locally owned place where you could get breakfast all day if you wanted too.

I think cascadia is on to something here.

My favorite first dates are coffee/walk on the beach.

With Harry Potter candles hanging from the ceiling?

Cocktails (because it is a date, and I am old fashioned. Though I won't order and Old Fashioned, probably). Think The Bible Club in Portland, an old speakeasy. Then a walk in Selwood park. Dinner, or a slice at Escape, depending on the vibe for the night to that point. Bookstore, and let her pick out a book or three to buy.

You see the problem with this philosophy is you assume there is enough culture in parts of the Midwest that there are good local options 🤣

Sometimes, it's just picking the cream of the crap, not of the crop. 🤷🏻

While I agree in principle, I've lived in places where you had to drive 45 minutes to get to something as "good" as Applebee's, and I hate that place!

This is hilariously topical right now as my highschool boy is considering taking his gf to either Olive Garden or (wait for iiiiiiiiit....) Cracker Barrel 🤣 for their one year anniversary and combined Valentine's Day. Is so adorable and hilariously awful 🤣

It's been over 2 decades since I've had a first date, but I absolutely agree with you.

Have to say I really liked the Dawes led cover of Randy Newman’s I Love LA that lead off the Grammys. Been a decent fan of those dudes for over a decade now.
