U.S. statehood for Canada?

Look, Trump doesn't really care about Canada, which is doing quite well enough on its own, isn't it?

It's only a legacy thing, like his plan to annex Greenland. What use is Greenland? We already have enough mines and enough fisheries, and there's not much else in Greenland's economy.

Trump just wants to be the first POTUS since the Spanish-American War to expand the country's territory.

Besides, if Canada were part of the U.S., it would be ten states -- ten provinces, ten states. And even little Prince Edward Island would have two senators. And Congress' political center-of-gravity would be well to the left of where it is now. Think before you act, Donald!

Also, what happens to the English-only movement if we have to accept French as an American language?

I'd like to do it the other way -- let Canada annex the U.S., eh? That way:

1) We get single-payer health care out of the deal, and

2) All those who are now FBI agents have to dress like Dudley Do-Right! :D

Of course, this is a joke thread. There is no Canada.

One occasionally hears these silly rumors of an English-speaking -- or by some accounts, French-speaking -- country to the north of the U.S. The people supposedly put maple syrup on baked beans and gravy on cheese curds. Their national sport is ice hockey, of all things! And their police wear some kind of preposterous over-the-top gay bondage gear.

Needless to say, all this nonsense is pure UL. You'd have better luck finding the Seven Cities of Cibola!

It just gets weirder.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump appears interested in adding a 51st star to the American flag. In a statement that some analysts warn could be serious and others have brushed off as trolling, Trump once again suggested on Wednesday that Canada should become a U.S. state. “No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year?” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding, “I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!”
How is the U.S. subsidizing Canada?!

It's just another Trump troll, playacting at pwning the libs. He's not actually very good at this though compared to his new paymaster.

Far more absurd, you sound like you think Canada is annexing the USA.

If the USA annexes Canada, the USA doesn't become Canadian, Canada becomes the USA.
That all depends on which constitution the united country is under.

God save the King!

Which depends on who is annexing who.

If the USA annexes Ca, then it's not the Ca constitution that stays.
Yes, that's why I said "the other way." That would shut down Washington -- we'd be sending our MPs to Ottawa -- the "swamp" Trumpers complain of drained at one stroke! :)

And now Trump is talking again about annexing Greenland.

If the status of Greenland is to be changed, it would make more sense to transfer the island to Canada -- make it part of their Inuit/Eskimo territory of Nunavut, which is just west of it. All Greenlanders not ethnically Danish are Inuit.

Listening to what comes out of trumps mouth is a bad way to go through life.

We're not. It's a trade deficit and he's off by 60%. The guys a moron.

In mentioning a $100 billion “subsidy,” Trump was referring to the US merchandise trade deficit with Canada. He was off by almost 60 percent. In 2023, the latest year for which we have data, Americans spent $59.6 billion more on imports from Canada than Canadians spent on US exports to Canada. We spent $481.6 billion, and Canadians spent $440.9 billion.

I notice the MAGAts are staying away from these threads. Are they ashamed of Dear Leader? These are some of the dumbest things he has ever said.

Also they like to pretend they don't see or hear his most Hitlerian remarks.

Anyway, how can we grant U.S. statehood to Canada before we grant it to DC or Puerto Rico?!

DC shouldn't ever be a state but Puerto Rico still hasn't gone through the required steps. Canadian States and Territories would just need to go through the process.

What required steps? The Puerto Ricans have voted for statehood in more than one referendum -- what else should they do?

Congress has to grant them the right to start the process. They actually managed to pass the House version of the bill in 2021 but the Senate version died. Once the law gets signed, they have to vote on it. All the referendums they've had were non-binding since Congress did not approve it. It was only the last two that the vote started swinging toward statehood.
